2026 World Cup Qualification play-off finals: Previews & predictions

Four more European nations will book their ticket to America this week, so check out Ladbrokes' full preview of the 2026 World Cup Qualification play-off finals.

Wales, Northern Ireland, and Republic of Ireland all failed to join England and Scotland at the World Cup after heartbreaking defeats in last week's semi-finals, but by Wednesday morning, we will know exactly which countries will be heading for a summer in the States.

Below, you'll find our take on every single UEFA World Cup Qualification play-off final, with this being each nation's last chance to reach the tournament.

2026 World Cup Qualification play-off finals: Previews & predictions

Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Italy

After rescuing their World Cup hopes with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Wales, Bosnia head home to take on the in-form Italians, and with Italy winning four of the last five meetings between the teams, we're tipping Gennaro Gattuso's side to book their spot at the 2026 World Cup. Seven wins in their last eight games show Italy are becoming something of a force again, and despite Bosnia having home advantage, we think Sergej Barbarez's side will fall at the final hurdle.

Czech Republic vs Denmark

Denmark's thumping of North Macedonia last week suggests Czechia could be in for a difficult afternoon here, with Brian Riemer's side scoring four and looking ruthless in front of goal - albeit against a weak opponent. Czech Republic scraped past Ireland on penalties, but did come back from two down to do so, so they'll be more than up for the fight here. We anticipate a nervy affair, with the Danes edging out their hosts.

Kosovo vs Turkey

Kosovo's dramatic victory against Slovakia has left them within touching distance of a first-ever World Cup, and with home advantage, we're backing Franco Foda's underdogs to get past Turkey and book their ticket to the States. Turkey will be confident of spoiling the party, with one competitive defeat since November 2024, but Kosovo can match that record - so we're predicting an historic night in Pristina.

Sweden vs Poland

Just eight places separate these two countries in the world rankings, with Sweden (42nd) priced as favourites to beat Poland (34th) and reach the 2026 World Cup - but we're going with the underdogs. Both sides have real star quality up top, as Viktor Gyokeres and Robert Lewandowski go head-to-head, but with last week's semi-final being Sweden's first competitive win since November 2024, Ladbrokes expects the Poles to show their class and qualify for a third successive World Cup.
