Two West Midlands rivals sitting at opposite end of the table come to blows on Sunday as Aston Villa host relegation-threatened Wolves.

After a poor start to the season, Villa are one of the Premier League's form sides, winning six of their last seven games, with a 2-1 win over Leeds last weekend seeing them break into the top four.

Things are looking much more miserable for Wolves, with Rob Edwards taking charge of just his second match after a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in his first which leaves them bottom and winless with only two points - making them odds-on for relegation.

Aston Villa vs Wolves predictions and betting tips

Morgan Rogers to score anytime

A key reason for Villa's turnaround in fortunes has been the return to form of Morgan Rogers, who is reminding everyone why he won last year's PFA Young Player of the Year and why he looks a shoo-in to make England's World Cup 2026 squad.

Rogers was the star of the show at Elland Road, netting both goals in a comeback win including a stunning free-kick to win the game. The attacking midfielder looks to be growing in confidence with each passing game and will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing a struggling Wolves side.

With main striker Ollie Watkins still struggling to find the net, we're backing Rogers to pop up with another goal.

Aston Villa to score over 1.5 goals

After not scoring a Premier League goal until late September, Villa have now found their shooting boots, scoring 10 goals in their last four home games in the top flight including four against Bournemouth in their most recent one at Villa Park.

Wolves, meanwhile, have shipped a league-high 27 goals in 12 games thus far, with their last two games a 2-0 defeat against Palace and successive 3-0 defeats versus Fulham and Chelsea.

It all points towards Villa getting at least a couple of goals in front of a home crowd at Villa Park, where they have lost just once in their last 24 league games.

Joao Gomes to commit 3+ fouls

With this game being a rivalry clash of sorts, Edwards will be hoping his Wolves players get stuck into the hosts by disrupting their rhythm as much as possible.

Midfielder Joao Gomes leads the relegation-threatened side for yellow cards (four) this season and commits fouls at a rate of 2.3 per game so far.

With the likes of Rogers, John McGinn and Emiliano Buendia all capable of drawing a foul, we think Gomes will commit slightly above his average of infringements on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa to win

Given the recent form of both sides, it all points towards another Aston Villa victory and more misery for Wolves.

While they have been known to slip up against their West Midlands neighbours at Molineux, their form against Wolves at home is generally pretty strong, having won each of the last editions of this fixture.

Though it could be a closer encounter than Wolves' recent games, Unai Emery's men should have enough for another three points.
