Champions League round of 16 preview: Second-leg predictions & odds

Published: Updated at:

Ahead of the Champions League round of 16, Ladbrokes shares its predictions for the second leg of every single tie, with plenty of drama still to come.

The latest round of Champions League action kicks off on Tuesday night as Sporting CP host Bodo/Glimt needing to overturn a three-goal deficit, before Arsenal and Leverkusen go head-to-head at the Emirates.

Chelsea host PSG at the same time, while Man City welcome Real Madrid to Manchester, with both Premier League sides needing a minor miracle to progress after damaging three-goal defeats last week.

Wednesday night then sees Newcastle travel to Barcelona with everything to play for following last week's draw, before Bayern Munich host Atalanta with a five-goal advantage.

Liverpool seek revenge on Galatasaray, with the Reds needing to rescue the tie following a 1-0 defeat in Istanbul, while Tottenham look to protect their pride against Atletico Madrid - with the Londoners losing 5-2 in Spain.

Champions League round of 16 preview: First-leg predictions & odds

Champions League round of 16 preview: Second-leg predictions & odds

Sporting Lisbon (0) vs Bodo/Glimt (3)

Five consecutive Champions League wins for Bodo/Glimt - all of which have been impressive - have really made people take notice of the Norwegian underdogs, and with a 3-0 lead to protect heading into this week's second leg, we're backing them to frustrate Sporting and ease through to the quarter-finals without any major scare.

Arsenal (1) vs Bayer Leverkusen (1)

Champions League favourites Arsenal failed to win a UCL for the first time this season when they drew in Germany last week, but heading back to the Emirates, we're expecting their perfect home record in the competition to continue. Leverkusen have only won one of their last seven in all competitions, and against one of Europe's most formidable sides, we think their Champions League journey ends here.

Chelsea (2) vs Paris Saint-Germain (5)

Defeat at home to Newcastle on Saturday certainly wasn't the ideal preparation for this one, and with a 5-2 scoreline to overturn, Chelsea have it all to do at Stamford Bridge. We do expect them to react against the current Champions League holders, holding PSG to a draw on the night, but with the French champions in such a comfortable position, we can only see one side progressing.

Manchester City (0) vs Real Madrid (3)

Man City's feeble performance at the Bernabeu has left them with a mountain to climb against the 15-time Champions League winners, and we're tipping Real Madrid to knock Pep Guardiola's side out of the competition for the third straight season. We do think City will win on the night, however, taking some sort of positive momentum into Sunday's League Cup final.

FC Barcelona (1) vs Newcastle United (1)

Last week's 1-1 draw at St. James' Park was a strong result for Newcastle, and they'll be full of confidence heading to the Nou Camp, but our team of experts are backing Barcelona to get the job done. The La Liga leaders have won each of their last 17 home games, and with Newcastle's form remaining wildly inconsistent, we're predicting a 3-1 win for Barca.

Bayern Munich (6) vs Atalanta (1)

This tie is all but done after Bayern's 6-1 demolition of their Italian opponents in the first leg, and we're expecting another simple evening for Vincent Kompany's side at the Allianz Arena. Atalanta did pull off an epic comeback to actually make it to the last 16, but with Bayern winning 18 of their last 22 games, the German champions shouldn't have any trouble progressing.

Liverpool (0) vs Galatasaray SK (1)

A second 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray this season has left Liverpool with work to do at Anfield, but with the Reds having a real point to prove after their Premier League draw with Spurs, we expect them to get the job done. Galatasaray have lost each of their last three away games in the Champions League, and as an expectant Liverpool crowd roars on their side, Ladbrokes is backing the hosts to edge into the quarter-finals.

Tottenham Hotspur (2) vs Atletico Madrid (5)

After such a calamitous evening in Madrid last week, Spurs aren't being given much hope of reaching this season's Champions League quarter-finals - and we're anticipating another bruising night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A draw at the weekend extended their winless run in the Premier League to 12 games, and with such an awful home record, we expect Spurs to crash out of the UCL without any real fight.
