FA Cup: Charlton Athletic vs Chelsea odds, betting tips and predictions

Chelsea to win

It's little over a month since Chelsea beat Barcelona 3-0 and then secured a creditable 1-1 draw playing a man down against Arsenal in the same week, leading some to put them in the Premier League title race. Things have unravelled at a remarkable speed since, with Enzo Maresca sacked and replaced by Liam Rosenior, who takes charge of his first game in the dugout after the previous two were led by interim coach Calum McFarlane.

The Blues have slipped down to 8th in the Premier League and are on a run of five games without a win in all competitions, but come up against a Charlton side also struggling after just one win in the past eleven. The Addicks were riding high in the playoff places in November but are now 19th, although they picked up a good point against league leaders Coventry in their last home game.

Estevao 1+ shots on target

Predicting a Chelsea team is difficult at the best of times given the bloated nature of their squad, but even more so for a cup fixture against weaker opposition where they'd be expected to rest players. It could be a good opportunity for the exciting teenage Brazilian winger Estevao Willian to shine, and he's shown flashes of brilliance in the limited chances he's had this season. We're backing him to test the keeper with at least one shot on target at The Valley.

Over 3.5 Charlton corners

Charlton have had over 3.5 corners in each of the last five games, averaging over 7 corners per game in that stretch. Nathan Jones' side will surely look to make the most of set-pieces if they're to stand a chance of upsetting the Club World Cup champions, and they have a good record from dead-ball situations, with 11 of their 25 Championship goals this season coming from set-pieces. We reckon that could be a big factor here, so we're backing Charlton to have over 3.5 corners again.

Conor Coventry to get booked

Conor Coventry plays an important role at the base of midfield in Charlton's 3-5-2 setup, and the Ireland international was rewarded with his first cap off the bench in the win over Portugal in November. He faces a tough assignment on Saturday evening against Chelsea's rotating cast of attacking midfielders, and having already picked up five yellow cards in the Championship this season, Coventry seems a prime candidate to collect another here in what should be a feisty cup tie.
