Just Golden – 12.40 Warwick
Just Golden leads on figures and has a big chance. He ran really well at Cheltenham the last day in a maiden hurdle and I would like to think he will go really well again. He is surely knocking on the door to win his maiden.
Mirabad – 1.50 Warwick
It will be hard to beat the top two in the betting, Mambonumberfive and Steel Ally, but Mirabad is no back number and he can run very well. I think the track will suit him and there are no issues. We are very happy with what we are seeing, but we have to be respectful of the top two who have achieved quite a lot.
Le Milos – 2.25 Warwick
Le Milos runs in the veterans’ race and has 7lbs off with Harry Atkins on board. He won the race last year and he has been a great old boy for us. With the soft ground and 7lbs off, I think he is a massive player. His form suggests that too; he was second in the veterans final last time out. I have no negatives for him at home, so I’ll presume he’ll go very well in this.
Kadastral & Typhoon Warrior – 1.00 Newbury
Harry [Skelton] rides Kadastral. He is a lovely horse who won the big bumper there last year, and won at the track again last time out. He has numbers to find with the favourite in this race, but I really like our horse. It remains to be seen how he takes to the ground, but I don’t think it will be a problem. We trained him for this and I think he will go very well.
We also run Typhoon Warrior who ran very well first time over hurdles at Market Rasen, but he didn’t show enough that day to think he can beat the principles in this race. He is a nice horse though.
Jack Black – 1.25 Uttoxeter
Jack Black runs in a four-runner race. He finished second last time, so much better than we’d seen before. Given the small field and soft ground, he has an obvious chance. He has stepped forward from last time and a similar type of run has to see him go close. We are below where we thought we would be with him this year, but hopefully we continue to see that improvement.
I Heard A Rumour – 3.42 Uttoxeter
I Heard A Rumour has her debut over hurdles here and is a sister to Listentoyourheart, who we’ve done very well with. This mare has been a bit backward, but she has done plenty of jumping and should run nicely first time. I don’t think the ground is an issue but that remains to be seen. On her debut though, winning is a lot to ask.
Supreme Malinas – 3.00 Warwick
She carries a penalty in this because she won a listed race just before Christmas at Haydock. A couple of the same horses reoppose here, but she is in great form. She will love the ground and the trip is no issue. Despite the penalty, I think she will go very well. Technically giving away that weight, some of the others should be able to get the better of her but I feel we have plenty of progression in us.
Supreme Yeats & Service Minimum – 3.35 Warwick
Both runners would appreciate slightly better ground, but they need to get out there and run. It’s only up the road so we are giving it a go, but as I said slightly better ground would be preferred.
Prince Zaltar – 4.10 Warwick
Prince Zaltar runs in a very similar race to the one he won back at the start of the year. We might run him back over fences after this, but we thought we would give him a look over hurdles to see if he is better handicapped here. I would expect him to run well. I can’t expect more than that because I do feel he’s probably a better chaser. He has won over hurdles for us though as I say so we thought it was worth a go.
A Pai De Nom & Tranquil Sea – 1.35 Newbury
A Pai De Nom ran really well in the Lanzarote last time and I think this trip will suit him now. It feels like he has a bit left in hand but this is pretty competitive stuff. The ground will make it hard work but I am looking forward to having him back out there. It doesn’t feel like a bad shout to go to three-miles given what we know about him now.
Tranquil Sea isn’t well handicapped anymore. He has ran a good few times since winning at the start of the year and the handicapper appears to have a grip of him.
Riskintheground – 2.10 Newbury
Riskintheground runs in the Denman Chase. There’s only four runners here. He is the lowest rated of the four and I don’t think he is very well handicapped, but there is plenty of prize-money on offer so we thought we would give it a go.
Calico – 2.45 Newbury
Calico is in great form and runs in the Game Spirit and there are a few in there like Lulamba who will be hard to beat. He is in great form and he is fresh and well. He is really good fun to run and is a great horse who had a phenomenal autumn so let’s see how he gets on at this level. It will be hard, but we will give it our best
Let It Rain & Faivoir – 3.20 Newbury
We run two in the big race. I am very happy with Let It Rain. She has stepped forward from Ascot and I don’t think the ground is a problem. She has a nice weight and we are just happy with how everything has gone. She has always been a mare we have thought a lot of. Her bumper form was good, her novice hurdle form was good, and it was a great run at Ascot after a long layoff. It feels like she will definitely step forward from that.
Faivoir has won a County Hurdle in the past and loves this type of ground. He was second on this type of ground in the Imperial Cup two years ago, so he should not be discounted in these conditions with 7lbs off as well. I would give him an each-way chance.
Risky Obsession – 4.30 Newbury
He won well at Warwick and we were really impressed with him. His work before that went really well and has been good since. I think he will be a fair player in this.
