Ladbrokes 1-2-Free: Away wins for Newcastle, Atletico & Leverkusen in Champions League play-offs

Published:

We're predicting victories for Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen as part of this week's Ladbrokes 1-2-Free promotion.

The Champions League knockout round play-offs get underway with the first legs this midweek, and we're tipping away wins all round on Wednesday 18 February, starting with Newcastle as they face Qarabag FK in Azerbaijan.

Then comes Atletico Madrid's venture to Belgium, as Diego Simeone's side take on Club Brugge - who knocked highly-rated Atalanta out at this stage last season.

Finally, the third of our chosen games sees Olympiacos host Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen at 20:00 GMT, with the visitors seeking a place in the last 16 for the second year on the bounce.

Away wins for Newcastle, Atletico & Leverkusen in Champions League play-offs

Right, now the rules are out of the way, Ladbrokes runs you through the three matches you have to predict for this week's 1-2-Free, giving our scoreline predictions for each.

The first game in our selection is Qarabag vs Newcastle, with the Magpies looking to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League for the very first time, and they enter the two-legged tie as firm favourites to progress.

Qarabag have had a mixed bag against Premier League teams this season, drawing with Chelsea before conceding six to Liverpool, and despite only losing one of their home games throughout the league phase, we are backing Newcastle to win on Wednesday.

Back-to-back wins for Eddie Howe's side have lifted spirits around the club, so we're predicting a professional performance, with the Premier League side coming out 2-0 winners.

Next up is an interesting play-off tie from Belgium's Jan Breydelstadion, as Club Brugge take on Atletico Madrid for a place in the Champions League round of 16.

Atletico have only failed to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League twice in the last 13 seasons, and will be confident of seeing off a Club Brugge side who currently sit third in the Belgian Pro League.

The hosts did pull off an upset last season, however, beating Atalanta over two legs at this stage, so Atletico have to be wary of the threat their opponents pose - even if they did only win three of their eight league phase matches this term.

We're predicting a 3-1 victory for Atletico Madrid on the night, getting the better of a stubborn Brugge team and taking a crucial advantage into next week's second leg.

Our final game in this week's Ladbrokes 1-2-Free promotion sees Olympiacos take on Bayer Leverkusen in Piraeus, with the German visitors backed for victory.

Kasper Hjulmand's Bundesliga side come into this game in the midst of a six-game unbeaten run, with five wins in that time - but their last defeat did come at the hands of Olympiacos in this exact fixture, so this is far from straightforward.

Olympiacos' victory over Leverkusen in January was their only home win of the entire league phase, so they'll be looking forward to repeating the feat this week - but we think the visitors will show their class.

Two of Leverkusen's three Champions League wins so far this season have come on their travels, and having already lost at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki this year, they'll be out for revenge.

We're anticipating an excellent game on Wednesday night, with Bayer Leverkusen ultimately beating Olympiacos 3-2.

Below are the three scorelines we're predicting for Qarabag vs Newcastle, Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid, and Olympiacos vs Bayer Leverkusen as part of Ladbrokes' 1-2-Free this week:

  • Qarabag FK 0-2 Newcastle United

  • Club Brugge 1-3 Atletico Madrid

  • Olympiacos 2-3 Bayer Leverkusen
