Manchester City to win the second leg
Manchester City are facing the very real prospect of being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid for the third consecutive season. Madrid had been out of sorts and were missing key stars like Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, but stunned Pep Guardiola's side last week thanks to a sensational first-half hat-trick by Fede Valverde. Mbappe and Bellingham are both in the squad for the second-leg, but may be saved in case of any potential disaster striking.
It could have been even worse for City, with Gianluigi Donnarumma saving a penalty, and they are just about within reach of an unlikely comeback. There aren't too many signs of that happening, as they slipped up again in the Premier League title race at the weekend, drawing at West Ham. An attacking lineup backfired in the first-leg, but Pep might be forced to pick one this time, and they'll need to start fast and score an early goal to really put the pressure on. We don't think City will have enough to pull off what would be an all-time classic comeback, but we can see them winning on the night, and we're predicting it to finish 2-1 at the Etihad.
Both teams to score
Man City will rue the missed chances they had in a dominant opening period before Real struck first against the run of play, and they never recovered from that initial setback. Before last week's game, both teams had scored in each of the last five meetings between the two, and in nine of the previous ten.
City have failed to score at the Etihad just twice all season, and with the initiative on them we reckon it's unlikely they don't find the back of the net, but they've kept a clean sheet in just one of their last five games in all competitions. So to go with our 2-1 second-leg prediction, we're picking both teams to score in our Man City vs Real Madrid bet builder.
Federico Valverde 1+ shots on target
The star of the first-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu was undoubtedly Real Madrid's captain on the night Fede Valverde, as his superb 22-minute hat-trick took the game away from Manchester City. Valverde has been a superb servant for Real over the years, filling in virtually over all the pitch, but he's been fielded on the right flank recently by interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa.
His tireless energy makes him an attacking threat and a defensive nuisance, but he's really come to the fore recently, scoring five goals in his last three games. We're backing the Uruguayan to make an impact again by having at least one shot on target.
Bernardo Silva to be shown a card
Bernardo Silva has spent years doing whatever Pep Guardiola asks of him, filling in across the pitch from wide areas to full back, but these days he is used more regularly as part of City’s central midfield alongside Rodri. The Portuguese midfielder is still as technically sharp as ever, though the deeper role means he is often involved in breaking up play, and Bernado has collected twelve yellow cards in all competitions, the most of any City player.
Three of those bookings have come in the Champions League, including one in the league phase meeting with Real when City won 2-1. With City needing to play on the front foot, Silva could easily find himself committing a few tactical fouls in midfield again, and we're tipping him to pick up another yellow card.
