Matthew Upson believes Manchester City now have the upper hand in the Premier League title race over Arsenal
Upson still believes the Gunners will reach the Champions League final this season
The ex-Arsenal and West Ham defender has tipped Tottenham for relegation to the Championship

Ex-Arsenal defender Matthew Upson gives his thoughts on the tense battle between his former club and Manchester City to win the Premier League, as well as the Gunners' Champions League run and the relegation battle, which involves another of his old sides West Ham and their battle with Tottenham.
The Premier League title race has taken a huge twist at the late stage of the season with a 2-1 win for Manchester City over Arsenal on Sunday seeing them leapfrog the Gunners as favourites for another triumph.
Upson said: "To be honest, Arsenal actually performed better than I expected them to. I expected Manchester City to dominate the game and that was definitely the case.
"Having 60% of the possession in a game of that magnitude will put you in a great position. I thought Bernardo Silva and Rodri were just outstanding for them in the middle.
"It was really hard for Arsenal to get anything out of the game. I’ve seen a lot of Arsenal since the turn of the year, and their biggest problem is that they just haven’t been creating chances.
"They haven’t been developing the ball in wide areas like they did so effectively in the first half of the season. Manchester City are coming into this final part of the race in a much better place.
"Arsenal have thrown everything at this season; they were phenomenal in the first part of the campaign. Not only were they solid and great at set-pieces, but they were also more flowing and more creative, certainly in wide areas. They were scoring more open-play goals.
"The fixture pile-up might have been a factor. You know, when you’re competing on all four fronts, it’s a big ask to get players like Declan Rice to churn out those physical performances three times a week, for four months on end… it’s near-impossible.
"Also they’ve had problems with Bukayo Saka, which obviously haven’t helped.
"You have to say that Man City are in a far superior place to Arsenal on all of those fronts."
Arsenal are still alive in the Champions League after squeezing through to the semi-finals with a 1-0 aggregate win over Sporting CP. They have a tough test up next in their bid to reach only a second-ever final as they face Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners are no longer Champions League favourites as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain step up their efforts but Upson has tipped them to make it to the final in Budapest.
"Arsenal are still looking strong in Europe, and I think they’ve got a decent tie in the semis against Atletico Madrid.
"It’s going to be cagey between those two sides, that’s for sure.
"I can see both games being relatively stale, to be honest.
"But Arsenal have got a great chance of making the final, over the course of two legs.
"I can see them squeaking into a final… I really can. And then it’s a one-off game…
"Are they going to be favourites against PSG or Bayern? Probably not, in terms of how well those two teams are playing and where they’re at psychologically.
"But it’s a final, and anything can happen. Do those fixtures create a bigger problem in their Premier League push?
"Yeah, it’s quite the double-edged sword, isn’t it?
"Man City can pretty much focus all of their attention on the Premier League now, and that’s a great position to be in."
Arsenal's North London rivals Tottenham have bigger things to worry about as they remain odds-on for a shocking relegation from the top flight, with Spurs still in the bottom three and a point behind West Ham.
"I do have a bit more of an eye on Tottenham these days, and obviously it would be bad for the Premier League as a whole if they were to go down," Upson added.
"Put current points totals to one side even, and you’d still say Spurs are behind Nottingham Forest and West Ham in terms of energy, and that togetherness, and the psychology of getting themselves out of this situation.
"So I think, at the moment, they’re the ones who are going to take that final relegation spot.
"It can’t be a good atmosphere around the place. It can’t be. When you can’t win games, when you’re not winning at home, and when you’re in this kind of position, it’s an awful feeling around the whole club.
"Not just the first-team players and staff. It affects the whole club, but again, this isn’t just an all of a sudden kind of thing; that feeling has been there for a period of time.
"They’ve got themselves into a dreadful position and I think that it’s been coming over time.
"The decisions at the club, the hierarchy, the culture of the club, the transfer policy… all of that mixed into one has led to where they are today.
"I just think it’s been a really ill-disciplined season from everyone there. The only thing that’s going to get them out of this hole is togetherness.
"It’s not about talent anymore, it’s about who’s going to be able to grind that result out.
"At this moment in time, I just worry they haven’t got enough about them to get enough points now."
