NFL Thanksgiving: Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers odds, preview & prediction

The Thanksgiving NFL slate opens with a critical division battle as the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers at 6pm UK time on Thursday. Green Bay, at 7-3-1, sits half a game ahead of the Lions (7-4) in the NFC North. Both teams are right behind division-leading Chicago.
Green Bay and Detroit each won this past weekend. The Packers received 100 yards from reserve running back Emanuel Wilson, along with five sacks and 10 quarterback hurries from their defence in a 23-6 victory over the reeling Minnesota Vikings. Wilson’s production made up for the absence of Josh Jacobs, who is still sidelined with a knee injury.
The Lions trailed by double digits multiple times against the two-win New York Giants before a 59-yard field goal by Jake Bates forced overtime. RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who had 264 yards and four touchdowns from scrimmage, rushed for a 69-yard score in overtime as Detroit escaped, 34-27.
NFL Week 13: Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers odds, preview and prediction for Thanksgiving game
Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions NFL Odds and Betting Trends
Green Bay is 1-4 against the spread on the road, 2-7 ATS in its last nine games, and 2-6 ATS in its previous eight games at Detroit.
The Lions are 4-1 straight up and 3-2 against the spread at home, where they have played to the Over three times in five games. The Packers have played to the Over four times in five road contests.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay is getting the immediate returns it wanted from Micah Parsons, who had two sacks against the Vikings to become the first Packer to reach double digits in five years. Devonte Wyatt also had two sacks as Green Bay held Minnesota QB J.J. McCarthy to 87 yards passing. The defence also recorded three turnovers.
The team’s work on that side of the ball made the game manageable for Jordan Love, who played with a non-throwing shoulder injury that made handing the ball off cumbersome. He completed 14 of 21 passes for a season-low 139 yards.
The Packers are 2-0 in the division after going 1-5 against the rest of the NFC North last season.
Detroit Lions
Despite a 7-4 record, the Lions certainly don’t look or feel like the juggernaut that went 15-2 and won its second straight NFC North crown while earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC last year.
Detroit continues to make things unnecessarily hard on itself. The defence allowed 395 yards passing by Giants reserve quarterback Jameis Winston, who also had a 33-yard touchdown reception. It also made WR Wan’Dale Robinson, who had nine catches for a career-high 156 yards and a touchdown, look like Malik Nabers.
Things don’t get any better for that side of the ball, as cornerback Terrion Arnold (concussion) and safety Kerby Joseph (knee) both exited the game with injuries, and their status for this week is uncertain.
NFL Prediction: Who will win Packers vs Lions?
It looks like the Lions are in for several shootouts to close the season, but Green Bay, with its fourth-ranked total defence and stumbling offence, may not oblige. The Packers defeated Detroit to open the 2025/26 season at Lambeau Field, 27-13. Don’t expect a similar result this time around.
Look for Gibbs and Amon Ra St. Brown, who had nine catches for 149 yards and one touchdown last week, to reveal holes in Green Bay’s tight defence and do just enough damage for the Lions to prevail, 28-24.
