The Open Championship: Latest odds, favourites, betting guide and how to watch
Published:
The final men’s major of the year returns to a beloved links venue as the world’s best golfers head to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
The 2025 Open Championship tees off from Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20, marking the tournament’s return to Portrush for the first time since 2019, when Shane Lowry stormed to an emotional victory on home soil.
We’ve taken a look at the latest Open Championship odds, assessed the form of the leading contenders, and picked out some tips for the fourth and final major of the year.
The Open Championship odds and favourites
Scheffler and Rory in the mix as five share lead
Favourites prior to the action Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy remain in contention as five shared the lead after an eventful first day at Royal Portrush.
Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick is among the five currently on -4, with Scheffler overcoming an erratic display to stay one behind and McIlroy just three behind after day one.
As a result, those two remain the bookies' favourites to take home the Claret Jug as both seek their second Major victory of the year, with Fitzpatrick ranked third by the bookies.
Hatton and Rahm in the running
Another Englishman Tyrell Hatton also enjoyed a strong first day and is now the fourth favourite alongside fellow LIV golfer John Rahm.
Hatton is alongside Scheffler one behind on -3, with Rahm not far behind on -1 with the Open anyone's game as day two commences.
Irishman Lowry, the last player to win the Open at Royal Portrush, is also a contender on 25/1 as he ended day one on -1.
The course: Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland
A rugged, traditional links test on the Antrim coast, Royal Portrush is a favourite among purists and punters alike and will have particular significance for Northern Irishman and Masters winner McIlroy.
Last seen in 2019, the Dunluce Links produced one of the most memorable Opens in recent memory as Shane Lowry triumphed by six shots in testing weather.
Expect more of the same this year, with coastal winds, firm fairways and undulating greens ready to challenge every part of a player’s game. The winner will likely need a sharp short game, tactical nous and the ability to handle pressure - and the elements.
