The Open Championship: Odds, favourites, betting guide and how to watch
Published:
The final men’s major of the year returns to a beloved links venue as the world’s best golfers head to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
The 2025 Open Championship tees off from Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20, marking the tournament’s return to Portrush for the first time since 2019, when Shane Lowry stormed to an emotional victory on home soil.
We’ve taken a look at the latest Open Championship odds, assessed the form of the leading contenders, and picked out some each-way tips for the fourth and final major of the year.
The Open Championship odds and favourites
Scheffler leads the market as Rory targets home glory
After a sensational season that’s seen him dominate across the PGA Tour, Scottie Scheffler heads to Royal Portrush as the 9/2 favourite to lift the Claret Jug.
The World No.1 has been the benchmark all year with multiple wins and top-10 finishes in every major, and he’ll be hoping to add a second Open title to his résumé.
Right behind him in the market is Rory McIlroy (6/1), returning to Northern Ireland determined to make amends for missing the cut at Portrush in 2019. The four-time major winner has shown flashes of brilliance this season and will have the full backing of the home crowd.
Rahm and Bryson lead chasing pack
Jon Rahm (11/1) follows as a steady third choice, bringing a mix of power and precision to a course that demands both. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau (18/1) arrives in form after another strong showing in the majors, though links conditions will push his accuracy to the limit.
A host of players are bunched at 20/1, including 2019 champion Shane Lowry, fan favourites Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele, rising star Ludvig Aberg, and fiery Englishman Tyrrell Hatton.
Looking slightly further down the board, Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland are both priced at 25/1, while Collin Morikawa - another past Open winner - sits at 28/1.
The course: Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland
A rugged, traditional links test on the Antrim coast, Royal Portrush is a favourite among purists and punters alike and will have particular significant for Northern Irishman and Masters winner McIlroy.
Last seen in 2019, the Dunluce Links produced one of the most memorable Opens in recent memory as Shane Lowry triumphed by six shots in testing weather.
Expect more of the same this year, with coastal winds, firm fairways and undulating greens ready to challenge every part of a player’s game. The winner will likely need a sharp short game, tactical nous and the ability to handle pressure - and the elements.
