Our five lively longshots for this weekend’s US Open

The 117^th US Open takes place this weekend at Erin Hills. It’s the first time Wisconsin has hosted the second Major of the year, but who will be celebrating on Sunday evening?

We’ve already run the rule over the market leaders earlier this week, so now it’s time to pick out a few contenders further down the betting.

Let’s crack on…

Louis Oosthuizen @ 50/1

Thundery showers are forecast during the weekend, but that shouldn’t phase Louis Oosthuizen.

Erin Hills isn’t officially a links course, but even if it were, the 2010 Open champion at St Andrews should feel right at home.

Second place at Chambers Bay two years ago confirms the notion that if things get a little tricky, the South African will come to the fore.

Oosthuizen was second at the Players Championship just last month too.

Kevin Kisner @ 50/1

The 33-year-old only made his Majors debut in 2014, but has made the cut in each of his last five.

And a scary number of statistics for this weekend’s US Open forecast Kevin Kisner to be this weekend’s champion.

He’s in great form too, having won the Dean & Deluca last month. A second in Zurich and sixth last time out in the Memorial confirms this.

Jason Dufner @ 50/1

Erin Hills is the second-longest course to host the US Open, but Jason Dufner isn’t the biggest hitter.

That shouldn’t count him out though, far from it.

The 2013 PGA Championship winner arrives having won the Memorial Tournament last time out.

He was fifth in Zurich this year too, and should Erin Hills turn out like Chambers Bay this weekend, Dufner battled to 11^th there as well in 2015. Also boasts US Open fourth places in 2012 and 2013.

Martin Kaymer @ 80/1

The eternal mystery which is Martin Kaymer. The German never plays to the formbook, posting just three top-10 finishes in his last 27 Majors.

But of course, he won two of those!

The 32-year-old has been trickling along nicely this season, making the cut from every event this year.

Kaymer has been grouped with Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth too, so that should only ensure he brings his A-Game.  And we know what that can do.

Jordan Niebrugge @ 250/1

Few, if any, players this weekend will know Erin Hills as well as Wisconsin resident Jordan Niebrugge.

It may only be his second Major appearance, but Niebrugge used to walk the course dreaming of playing it in the US Open. And now he can.

The 23-year-old has an ideal tee slot too, going out in the opening group for Thursday’s first round.

Put the two together and the American looks overpriced at 250/1 outright, and is also more appealing at 80/1 to be first round leader.
