Premier League youngest goalscorers

10. Ethan Nwaneri – 17 years, 247 days old

Ethan Nwaneri has cemented himself as one of English football's brightest prospects with his emergence for Arsenal in recent years.

Having already become the Premier League's youngest player as a 15-year-old in 2022, Nwaneri bagged his first goal in the competition to cap off a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in November 2024, showing composure beyond his years with a left-footed finish that is already becoming a trademark of his.

9. Lewis Miley – 17 years, 229 days old

Just less than a year before Nwaneri struck, Lewis Miley got himself into the top 10 with a calm strike to send Newcastle on their way to a 3-0 win over Fulham in December 2023.

Now 19, central midfielder Miley's progress has been hampered slightly by injuries but featured regularly off the bench in the second half of last season for the Magpies as well as the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

8. Federico Macheda – 17 years, 226 days old

You know some Premier League moments are going to go down in folklore the moment they happen and that is certainly the case for Federico Macheda's stunning winner for Manchester United against Aston Villa in April 2009.

United's title dreams hung in the balance while 2-1 down to Villa to Old Trafford when debutant Macheda was brought on to try and desperately salvage the game.

The Red Devils equalised through Cristiano Ronaldo and then, in stoppage time, the teenager curled in a beautiful finish for a victory which ultimately proved the difference in sealing the title ahead of rivals Liverpool.

7. Andy Turner – 17 years 166 days old

The earliest and possibly the least-known entry on this list, Andy Turner became the youngest Premier League goalscorer at the time when he scored Tottenham's winner against Everton during the Premier League's inaugural season in 1992/93.

Turner would fail to establish himself as a Spurs regular but did have spells in the top flight with Portsmouth, Crystal Palace and Wolves before spending his later career in the lower leagues.

6. Michael Owen – 17 years, 143 days old

Turner's record stood for five years before a certain Michael Owen burst onto the scene with a goal for Liverpool against Wimbledon in May 1997.

Unlike Turner, however, Owen's goal was just the start, as he went on to win the PFA Young Player of the Season and the Player of the Season the following year before coming the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or in 2001, overall scoring 158 goals in 297 appearances for the Reds.

The striker went on to join Real Madrid before representing Manchester United, Newcastle and Stoke but injuries plagued the later stages of his career and he retired at the age of 33.

5. Cesc Fabregas - 17 years, 113 days old

One of the best midfielders in Premier League history was also one of the youngest scorers, with Cesc Fabregas announcing himself as a 17-year-old in Arsenal's win over Blackburn in August 2004.

Fabregas went on to become club captain for the Gunners before winning two Premier League titles with Chelsea after a spell back in Spain with boyhood club Barcelona.

4. Rio Ngumoha - 16 years, 361 days old

Rio Ngumoha may well be the next star in the making after his delightful winner for Liverpool on his Premier League debut just shy of his 17th birthday.

Having let a two-goal lead slip against Newcastle, Arne Slot sent the youngster on in injury time and he clinically slotted the winner in the 10th minute of stoppage time for a moment which, like many others on this list, is sure to go down as an iconic Premier League moment.

3. Wayne Rooney - 16 years, 360 days old

Ngumoha was beaten by just a day by Wayne Rooney but if the Liverpool starlet goes on to have half the career his predecessor had, he will have done just fine.

Rooney captured headlines all across the world when his 25-yard screamer found the back of the net for Everton against Arsenal in October 2002 in a game which ended the Gunners' 30-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

He was an instant hit in English football, going on to play for Manchester United where he became their club captain and record goalscorer, achieving the same feats internationally for England, too.

2. James Milner - 16 years, 356 days old

Rooney's record only stood for a few months when James Milner, just five days younger than the Everton man was, scored for Leeds against Sunderland in December 2002.

Twenty-three years later, Milner is extraordinarily still a Premier League player for Brighton, having won the Premier League with both Manchester City and Liverpool while also representing Newcastle and Aston Villa during an illustrious career.

The now 39-year-old needs to play just 15 more league games for the Seagulls this season to overtake Gareth Barry's record and become the all-time record appearance maker in the Premier League.

1. James Vaughan - 16 years, 270 days old

James Vaughan's status as the Premier League's youngest goalscorer has now surpassed 20 years but he could not quite follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before him.

Sent on for his debut at 16 years and 270 old against Crystal Palace, the striker tapped in from close range to seal a 4-0 victory.

He scored eight more goals for the Toffees but struggled to prove himself in the Premier League and is now retired. Still, Vaughan remains a key part of Premier League history with his remarkable achievement.
