Premier League Gameweek 28 preview: Predictions & odds

Published:

Ladbrokes previews the latest round of Premier League action, with another set of blockbuster games - including Arsenal vs Chelsea - ready to take centre stage.

The football weekend kicks off on Friday night with a Midlands derby at Molineux, as rock-bottom Wolves host a stuttering Aston Villa side still fighting for a comfortable position in the top four.

Saturday then offers a full complement of matches, starting at 12:30pm as Bournemouth welcome Sunderland to the Vitality Stadium, before a host of 3pm games take place.

The pick of the bunch sees Liverpool take on West Ham at Anfield, while Newcastle host Everton at the same time, before Man City then travel to Leeds for a 5:30pm kick-off to wrap up Saturday's action.

Sunday then features a number of games at 2pm, with Manchester United vs Crystal Palace, Fulham vs Spurs, and Brighton vs Nottingham Forest all carrying huge significance - and then comes the game of the weekend.

Arsenal and Chelsea meet at the Emirates to round off the week, with the Gunners looking to maintain their title charge at the expense of their visitors' Champions League push.

Premier League Gameweek 28 preview: Predictions & odds

Premier League Gameweek 28 Preview

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa

Wolves' two-game unbeaten run was ended harshly at Selhurst Park last week, and with such a strong record against Villa, they'll fancy their chances of picking up a result here - but the visitors should be too strong. In what has become something of a must-win game for the Villans in their Champions League charge, we think they'll get over the line in a tight affair.

Bournemouth vs Sunderland

Having endured an 11-game winless run from November to January, Bournemouth are now unbeaten in seven Premier League outings, and we're backing them to ease past an out-of-form Sunderland. The Black Cats have only managed two wins on the road this season, and with the Cherries starting to dream of Europe again, we're predicting a home win.

Burnley vs Brentford

With Brentford sitting just five points behind the top five, Keith Andrews' side are still firmly in the conversation for Champions League football, and they won't be in any mood to slip up against a Burnley side with just two home wins this season. The Bees have won four of their last five away games in the Premier League, and despite Burnley nicking a point at Chelsea last time out, we're tipping the visitors.

Liverpool vs West Ham United

Alexis Mac Allister's stoppage-time winner snatched Liverpool a huge three points last week, and as they look to make their way into the top five, we're backing the Reds to make it three wins from three. West Ham's performances have picked up of late, with the Hammers losing just one of their last six in the league, but their wretched record at Anfield is likely to continue here with a narrow defeat.

Newcastle United vs Everton

Despite reaching the Champions League round of 16 for the first time ever, Newcastle's Premier League form has been far from impressive this season, with the Magpies sat in the bottom half of the table - and we're expecting another frustrating afternoon on Saturday. Everton's recent record against the Toon is pretty strong, with one defeat in five, so we're tipping a tight contest to end all square at St. James' Park.

Leeds United vs Manchester City

Man City's 2-1 win over Newcastle was crucial in keeping the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the table, and with four wins from five Premier League games, they look in irresistible form ahead of their trip to Leeds. Daniel Farke's hosts have only lost one of their last six, but when City hit their stride, they can beat anyone -and we think they'll pick up another important victory at Elland Road.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

Two teams having underwhelming campaigns go head-to-head at the AMEX, with Brighton looking to build on their first win since early January, and Forest hoping to claw away from the bottom three - but we can't separate the sides here. Brighton have only won one home game since November, and with Forest almost holding Liverpool last week, we're predicting a draw on the south coast.

Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur

Igor Tudor's opening game didn't exactly go to plan in last week's North London derby, and we can't confidently back Spurs here either, with Fulham already having beaten them once this season. Marco Silva's side got an impressive win at Sunderland last time out, and with the pressure on Spurs rising by the week, we think the visitors could struggle for consistency. We're tipping a draw here, which barely helps Tottenham's case.

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

A fifth win in six for Michael Carrick saw Manchester United close the gap to the top three to just three points, and they'll be supremely confident of claiming the points against a Crystal Palace side with two wins from 16 games across all competitions. The Eagles have a good recent record at Old Trafford, winning on their last two visits, but United's momentum should carry them over the line here.

Arsenal vs Chelsea

The Premier League weekend reaches its climax on Sunday afternoon as Arsenal and Chelsea meet at the Emirates, but we're predicting a tense, low-scoring affair. Arsenal's win at Spurs last week was significant for a number of reasons, and with Chelsea's form dropping off slightly, we think the Gunners will edge over the line again here - but it will be far from straightforward.
