Tribal Chief - Sandown - 2.15 race odds
Monarch's Gold - Sandown - 4.05 race odds
Dontlookbackinanga - Sandown - 4.35 race odds
We kick things off on Saturday with Tribal Chief, and this is one I'm really looking forward to getting back on after he ran a massive race in the spring, finishing third up at Doncaster. He's always been a horse that's been slow away, but lately he's been extra slow out of the gates, which means he's struggled to recover.
David [Menuisier] thought it could help him by going up to a mile and a quarter, and he is bred for the trip, so there's every chance he'll get the trip. And if it does, it'll obviously help him, were he to jump slow again.
He's a horse who's had great chances and perhaps could have won a couple if he wasn't doing what he does at the start. Hopefully he can break on terms, and if he stays that trip, he should go very close.
I'm on Monarch's Gold next, and he's been competitive in his last couple of races around some nice solid races. He's got a nice draw in one and the trip is ideal for him. The stiff track should be beneficial to him, and he's a horse with a real live chance as far as I'm concerned.
Dontlookbackinanga ran a nice race here over the same trip, a race that worked out quite nicely. He was disappointing in his next outing at Newbury, where he was fourth again. He just didn't seem to find improvement on the day, whether that was the track or the trip, there's a question mark. But again, he's drawn nicely, and he seems to like Sandown, we know that much, and he should find himself competitive.
I'd like to think he can get his head in front on this occasion; yes it's a strong race, but it's a Nursery, and he's now running off this decent handicap mark he's been given.
