Aramram - Doncaster - 1.50 race odds
Tribal Chief - Doncaster - 3.32 race odds
It is the official start of the Flat this weekend, although it doesn’t make much difference to me as I’ve been racing throughout the winter. Last year we went into the season chasing 100 winners so we are trying to up the quantity. We are lucky enough to have quality there. Obviously, we didn’t get to 100 last year due to a few bans here and there, but we are pushing to do that again this year. We are starting a fresh and new as far as the horses are concerned. We had Rosallion but he’s retired now, and a lot of our horses at Hannon’s are retired now, so we are basically waiting to see what the two-year-olds have got and hoping they can present themselves decent and find a very good horse amongst them. We have a lot to look forward to.
It was very exciting to see Constitution Hill during the week but also very interesting to see what quality a jump horse needs to possess to perform on the flat. So far, he has been very impressive on two occasions and has done no wrong. I suppose he hasn’t met anything at a high level yet but it’s great to see him dragging fans to the races and showing what potential he has as a flat horse and what his optimum trip will be. I am looking forward to seeing what his level really is.
A Bear Affair – 1.20 Doncaster
We’ve been very good in the Brocklesby Stakes in recent years. We had Persian Force who won it a few years ago and we won it last year for Amo Racing too. They’re with Robson De Aguiar now and come here with three potentially very nice horses all by Persian Force. They are going to be difficult to contend with but at the same time we have two two-year-olds ready to start. A Bear Affair has been showing that he’s been doing everything right and he is ready to go.
Aramram – 1.50 Doncaster
Aramram was a very good horse last year and turned up a lot of the time albeit unlucky. It took him work to get his head in front. He was very competitive through the year, and I dare say he has improved again as a five-year-old. His work leading up to this has been very good. I know this is down as a listed race, but potentially it looks far beyond that. We have a G1 winner in it and it’s a very competitive race. This will tell us exactly where we are with him and I don’t think he will disappoint at a very decent each-way price.
Tribal Chief – 3.32 Doncaster
Tribal Chief is an exciting horse who won nicely at Goodwood and that form was franked. He ran in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket, the ground was lively enough, and I think the extra furlong was too far for him on the day. He ran really well at Ascot. I know he finished seventh, but he wasn’t too far beaten, and he had trouble in running as well being a horse who likes to come from the rear. Going to Doncaster he will be suited by the track, trip and potentially any ground. He handles a variety of ground. I think he could run a massive race at an each-way price. I think he is my best chance of the day.
