Ladbrokes ranks the quickest red cards in Premier League history, looking at which players made the shortest, sharpest contributions to a top-flight match.
We've already taken a look at the quickest yellow cards in Premier League history, so we thought we'd see who saw red and lost their head. From lunges to late tackles and subs sent off instantly, here are the fastest red cards in Premier League history.
The 10 quickest red cards in Premier League history
10. Kevin Mirallas, 2 minutes 16 seconds, Everton vs Swansea City (2013)
Kevin Mirallas became a cult hero at Goodison Park, scoring 29 goals in seven years at Everton, but on this occasion David Moyes was not best pleased with him.
After coming off the bench in injury time, the Belgian winger received a straight red card for a nasty tackle on Swansea's Modou Barrow, just 2 minutes and 16 seconds after entering the pitch.
9. Juan Foyth, 2 minutes 13 seconds, Spurs vs Bournemouth (2019)
Tottenham were already down to 10 men when Juan Foyth was introduced as a half-time substitute against Bournemouth in 2019.
Mauricio Pochettino was fuming as the young Argentinian defender was given his marching orders just 133 seconds after being brought on for stability, and instead he left Spurs with 9 men.
8. David Meyler, 1 minute 55 seconds, Sunderland vs Portsmouth (2009)
Sunderland midfielder David Meyler was sent off less than two minutes after coming on as a substitute for a vicious elbow on Steve Finnan. It was the third red card handed out in that fiery encounter at Fratton Park.
Meyler would later be involved in another infamous incident on the touchline, when he was on the receiving end of Alan Pardew's headbutt while playing for Hull against Newcastle.
7. Tim Flowers, 1 minute 35 seconds, Blackburn vs Leeds (1995)
Title-chasing Blackburn Rovers hosted Leeds United but had a disastrous start after goalkeeper Tim Flowers took out Leeds striker Brian Deane when he was clean through on goal.
The referee had no choice but to show red with barely 90 seconds on the clock. Blackburn managed to earn a point, and ended up going on to win the Premier League trophy.
6. Craig Dawson/Gareth McAuley, 1 minute 29 seconds, West Brom vs Manchester City
Craig Dawson committed a foul on Wilfried Bony in the early stages at the Etihad Stadium, but Neil Swarbrick mistakenly showed the red card to Gareth McAuley instead.
Despite the protests from West Brom players, the decision stood and McAuley was forced to watch the remainder from the dressing room. Man City went on to win the match 3-0.
5. Andreas Johansson, 1 minute 28 seconds, Wigan vs Arsenal (2006)
In Arsenal's final game at Highbury, Wigan midfielder Andreas Johansson had the misfortune of being sent off without touching the ball. After coming off the bench, he lasted just 88 seconds on the pitch.
The Swede pulled back compatriot Freddie Ljungberg in the penalty area and received his marching orders. Thierry Henry converted the spot-kick to sign off with a hat-trick at The Gunners' former home.
4. Alexandre Jankewitz, 1 minute 10 seconds, Southampton vs Manchester United (2021)
Saints youngster Alexandre Jankewitz was making just his second appearance for the club when he was dismissed for a high lunge on Scott McTominay, with just 70 seconds on the clock.
It set the tone that night for Southampton, as they went on to humiliatingly lose 9-0 at Old Trafford, the second time in two seasons the south coast club lost by that scoreline.
3. Dave Kitson, 47 seconds, Reading vs Manchester United (2007)
Reading striker Dave Kitson was sent off on the opening day of the 2007/08 season against Man Utd for a lunge on Patrice Evra just seconds after entering the pitch.
The Royals managed to secure a point that day, but after a successful debut top-flight campaign in 2006/07 when they finished 8th, they were unable to beat 'second-season syndrome' and were relegated.
2. Steven Gerrard, 38 seconds, Liverpool vs Manchester United (2015)
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was introduced at half-time in this clash against fierce rivals Manchester United, with his side trailing to a Juan Mata goal.
Unfortunately, it didn't end how anyone wanted at Anfield in what proved to be his final appearance against The Red Devils, as he was sent off 38 seconds after being introduced after tangling with Ander Herrera.
1. Keith Gillespie, 0 seconds, Sheffield United vs Reading (2007)
The 'winner' of the award of fastest red card in Premier League history goes to Keith Gillespie, who was sent off for Sheffield United against Reading almost immediately after coming on.
The former Newcastle and Man Utd winger was dismissed by ref Mark Halsey for lashing out at Reading's Stephen Hunt. Gillespie had been subbed on while his team were preparing a throw-in, and the ball was not back in play at the time of his red card, giving the Northern Irishman the dubious honour of being sent off after 0 seconds.
