Ladbrokes previews Group E of the 2026 World Cup
Germany priced as heavy favourites to top the group, with Curacao the underdogs
Ecuador and Ivory Coast tipped to play out a captivating battle for second

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Ladbrokes shares its in-depth Group E preview, with a look at each nation, the full schedule, and the bookies' favourites.
Germany find themselves priced as clear favourites to top a group that, on paper, seems reasonably straightforward for the 2014 World Cup winners - but Ecuador and Ivory Coast will certainly be looking to spring a surprise. Curacao may be rank outsiders in Group E, but they'll be desperate to make their first-ever World Cup one to remember.
Curacao emerged as group winners in their CONCACAF qualifying campaign, beating Jamaica to top spot, and look forward to a first-ever World Cup - but they've been dealt a difficult hand in Group E.
Tahith Chong and the Bacuna brothers (Leandro and Juninho) are some of the more familiar names sprinkled throughout the Curacao squad, and experienced manager Fred Rutten is the man tasked with guiding them this summer, so despite being priced at 1000/1 to do the impossible and win the World Cup, they're perhaps slightly better equipped for the elite stage than some may realise.
Their opening game against Germany could be a very harsh introduction to World Cup football, but with nothing to lose, we're excited to see how the minnows get on in the biggest summer of their footballing history.
Ecuador have qualified for back-to-back World Cups for just the second time in their history, and after failing to make it out of the groups last time out, their exciting squad will be looking to make their mark and reach the knockouts for just the second time.
Some big Premier League stars will be representing Ecuador in the States (namely Chelsea's Moises Caicedo and Arsenal's Pierro Hincapie) and with other well-known names like William Pacho also in the ranks, La Tricolor will be ready to showcase their talents on the global stage - potentially even battling Germany for top spot.
Ladbrokes has priced them as second-favourites in Group E, and considering they haven't lost a game of any kind since a 1-0 defeat to Brazil in September 2024, Ecuador look in good shape to progress to the round of 32.
Julian Nagelsmann's Germany are runaway favourites to top their group in the bookies' pre-tournament odds, with the European giants having participated in more World Cups than the rest of their Group E opponents combined - lifting the trophy on four separate occasions.
The 2014 World Cup not only saw Germany win their most recent honour, but also saw Miroslav Klose become the top goalscorer in World Cup history, and with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Florian Wirtz, Leroy Sane, and Kai Havertz looking to shine in the States, this summer could turn into another memorable one for the Germans.
The opening game against debutants Curacao could be a potential banana skin, but it's also an excellent opportunity for Germany to set the tone and show the rest of the world what they can do - and a successful group stage could easily see their outright winner odds of 14/1 shorten as the tournament progresses.
The fourth and final team in Group E are 2023 AFCON winners Ivory Coast, who will be looking to capitalise on any potential slip up from Germany or Ecuador and qualify for the knockouts for the first time in their history.
Emerse Fae's squad has plenty of names that will be familiar to European football fans, from Manchester United's Amad Diallo to former Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe, and with a host of other players plying their trade across the top European leagues, Ivory Coast are arriving in America with very real dreams of achieving a best-ever tournament finish.
Having not qualified for either of the last two tournaments, the 2026 World Cup is Ivory Coast's first for 12 years, and having lost just one competitive match since November 2024, Les Elephants could be one of this summer's teams to watch.
It's four-time winners Germany who the bookies are pricing as clear favourites to come out on top in Group E, with their opening match against Curacao having the potential to be one of the most one-sided games in the entire tournament.
Ecuador are next with odds of 7/2, with their exciting core and sprinkling of elite experience giving them the edge over an Ivory Coast side who will also be hoping to battle at the top. Curacao are massive underdogs, and will likely consider even a single point a success this summer.

Our predictions for Group E align with Ladbrokes' odds, with our experts struggling to see a scenario where Germany fail to comfortably finish top of the group - especially if they get off to the ruthless start that many may be expecting.
We've got Ecuador in second, edging out Ivory Coast (who will likely qualify as one of the best third-placed teams), with World Cup debutants Curacao finishing bottom of the group.
