France vs England (Saturday, July 18, 2026 - 22:00 BST)
The first pick of our day 38 World Cup double comes in the third-place play-off, where we're backing both teams to score when France take on England.
This game is a tough one to call, given we fully expect both France and England to rotate heavily after suffering semi-final heartbreak. Back in 2018, when England faced Belgium in the third-place play-off, Gareth Southgate still started the likes of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling, but it was a changed side that also included Phil Jones and Fabian Delph from the off. This time around, we expect the Three Lions to rotate even more, given they have played an extra game due to the expanded tournament, while the likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have looked increasingly tired.
That could open the door for goals, and history points in the same direction. Seven of the last 10 third-place play-off matches at the World Cup have seen both teams score, with these games often more open than the knockout matches that come before them.
France conceded in two of their three World Cup group-stage matches, against Senegal and Norway, and with William Saliba injured after going off against Spain, we expect Les Bleus to be more suspect defensively. Conceding two in the aforementioned semi-final defeat to Spain won't have helped either.
England, meanwhile, have conceded in each of their knockout matches against DR Congo, Mexico, Norway and Argentina. With eight goals conceded across their seven matches at this tournament, and with a rotated team likely, we're expecting France to get chances too.
So the first pick of our day 38 double is BTTS in France vs England, with both sides backed to sign off from the tournament with a goal.
The second and final pick of our World Cup double is for both teams to score in the final between Spain and Argentina.
Spain have conceded just one goal at the World Cup, so predicting both teams to score is definitely a risk. Luis de la Fuente's side have been outstanding defensively, keeping six clean sheets in seven matches and controlling games with the kind of authority that has taken them to the brink of another World Cup triumph.
But we just can't see them keeping out Argentina.
Even when they look out for the count, Argentina find a way to score. We saw that in their comeback wins against Egypt and England, and we also saw it in their extra-time victories over Cape Verde and Switzerland. Lionel Scaloni's side have not always been in total control, but they have had no trouble producing big moments when they need them most.
Argentina have scored 19 goals at the World Cup so far, an average of over 2.7 per game, while their matches have seen 26 goals scored by either team, an average of over 3.7 per game. The stats show that when Argentina are involved, you tend to see plenty of goalmouth action.
Spain have been less potent in attack than Argentina, scoring 13 goals across their seven matches, an average of 1.86 per game, but their defensive record is the standout statistic. With it all on the line, though, and with Argentina not a team to roll over, we're backing the reigning champions to breach the best defence in the tournament.
Spain have enough quality of their own to respond, so BTTS in the World Cup final is our second pick, bringing a close to our day 38 double.
