Since firing in a handful of goals over the winter period, Morgan Rogers' attacking threat has cooled considerably, with just one Premier League goal in 2026 for the England international - but we're tipping him to get back on the scoresheet this weekend.
The attacking midfielder still leads the way for Aston Villa in terms of shots on target, with roughly one per game in the league, and with well over two shots per 90, he's always looking to test the opposition keeper. We also know he's more than capable of producing the spectacular, and against one of the league's tightest defences, that may well come in handy here.
We're predicting Rogers to start in his more effective central role at home to Sunderland, and with the 23-year-old always looking to get shots away, we're backing him to score at Villa Park.
The Black Cats come to Villa Park with genuine hopes of breaking into the European picture, and with Brian Brobbey becoming the main man up top for Sunderland in the last couple of months, we're expecting the 24-year-old to cause all sorts of problems - ultimately having at least one shot on target.
The Netherlands international is Sunderland's top scorer in the league this season with six goals, and with an average of a shot per game, he always seems to work the space for an attempt - hitting the target roughly half the time.
Villa have been much more solid defensively in recent weeks, but Brobbey's powerful playstyle will certainly unsettle the hosts, so we're tipping 1+ shots on target for the Sunderland number nine.
Moving over to the cards markets now, and we're tipping Reinildo to pick up his eighth yellow card of the season on Sunday, with the experienced defender overstepping the mark one too many times.
A large portion of Villa's play will likely come down Sunderland's left-hand side through the likes of John McGinn and Matty Cash, and with the Black Cats full-back committing almost as many fouls (1.5 per 90) as he makes clean tackles (1.6 per 90), he seems a smart pick for this bet builder.
Reinildo actually picked up his only Premier League red card in the reverse fixture back in September, and having been booked in two of his last three games, we're predicting another card for the Sunderland man here.
Rounding off our Aston Villa vs Sunderland preview and predictions, we're backing the hosts to claim back-to-back home wins in the Premier League for the first time since early January, with Villa solidifying their position inside the top five.
Unai Emery's side have wobbled of late, only picking up two wins from their last nine league games, but with key players now returning from injury and the lure of Champions League football getting ever-stronger, we're anticipating a positive end to the season for the Villans.
Sunderland have won their last two, and have plenty to play for themselves, but with the home crowd behind them and a real point to prove, our experts think Aston Villa will edge a tight affair on Sunday.
