Who will Aston Villa sell this summer as Martinez and Watkins linked with moves?

Villa Park, Aston Villa FC

Aston Villa have reportedly avoided breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability (PSR) rules but UEFA's squad cost rules mean a number of their stars are still linked with moves away.

Villa's failure to qualify for the Champions League last season saw them miss out on crucial income, with the Midlands club recently hit with a fine by Europe's governing body for breaching their financial rules.

As a result, they will likely still need to shift a player from Unai Emery's squad to avoid further pubishment heading into the 2025/26 season.

Ladbrokes looks at which of Villa's stars could be on the move.

Aston Villa transfer news and odds: Who could leave?

Emiliano Martinez

The most publicised potential departure is undoubtedly goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, with rumours continuing to swirl since the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.

Argentina's influential World Cup winner, who has won the esteemed Yashin Trophy at the last two Ballon d'Or ceremonies, was emotional after Villa's last home game of the season against Tottenham in May, with many suggesting it may have been his last game at Villa Park.

Bookies have recently made Manchester United the odds-on favourite to land the 32-year-old, while Atletico Madrid are also an option.

That said, both clubs will likely need to sell current No1s Andre Onana and Jan Oblak before signing Martinez, which could open the door to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Ollie Watkins

Like Martinez, the sale of Ollie Watkins is unlikely to be one Villa want to make but may be forced to due to their current situation.

The England striker has scored at least 15 Premier League goals in the last three seasons and became their all-time top scorer in the competition late in the 2024/25 campaign but is another who has had doubts over his future at Villa Park in recent months.

Watkins found himself out of the team at points last season, firstly due to Jhon Duran's form then the arrival of Marcus Rashford on loan from Man Utd in January.

But with neither at the club and Watkins' potential suitors pursuing other targets, the 29-year-old appears likely to remain in the West Midlands for now.

Leon Bailey

The sale of Leon Bailey looks to be a done deal, with a £25million switch to Saudi side Neom SC set to be completed in the coming days.

Winger Bailey's departure could be crucial in Villa's quest to avoid sanctions and is a sale Emery was seemingly happy to agree to after an underwhelming last campaign.

Still, after a strong four seasons at Villa, with his best helping them qualify for the Champions League in 2023/24, he will depart the club with the fans' best wishes.

Morgan Rogers

Perhaps one of Villa's top assets and a favourite of Emery's, the sale of Morgan Rogers may become more of a reality as we reach the PSR deadline on June 30.

Rogers, now a regular England international, will not be short of suitors after starring for the Villans in 2024/25, playing almost every game under Emery.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with the talented midfielder. While a key man, a reported fee upwards of £60m for a player they paid just £15m for in January 2024 may become too good for Villa to turn down.

Jacob Ramsey

As a homegrown player, Jacob Ramsey would count as pure profit on Villa's balance sheet, as a result, could be sacrificed.

The 24-year-old had a solid season for the Villans but has struggled to reach the same levels he was at two seasons ago and may not be a regular starter when everyone is fit, particularly if they decide to sign Marco Asensio or Marcus Rashford permanently.

Newcastle and Tottenham have held interest in the past and it remains to be seen if either will make a move in the next week or so.

Could anyone else leave Aston Villa?

The transfer rumours mill has been swirling in the West Midlands, for outgoings rather than incomings, and plenty of other players could be on their way.

Left-back Lucas Digne is one of them. The 31-year-old is one of the club's highest earners and with Ian Maatsen impressing towards the end of last season, Digne has been linked with Atletico Madrid.

Amadou Onana, who only arrived for £50m last summer, has interest from the Saudi Pro League, with fellow midfielders Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans not short of suitors, either.

A number of youngsters are also set to be sold to help the PSR cause, with Kosta Nedeljkovic and Louie Barry set to follow Kaine Kesler-Haiden, who has moved to Coventry, out of the door.

Elsewhere, Villa will be desperate to find a buyer for forgotten man Leander Dendoncker, who still has another year remaining on his contract.
