Gough says England are in need of a reset ahead of the third Test in Adelaide
Ladbrokes ambassador Darren Gough has had his say on England's Ashes efforts so far and gives a prediction for the next three Tests.
England's series so far
Well, England's performances in Australia so far haven't been great - there was so much expectation going into the series and everyone seemed to think it was going to be the best England team that's toured Australian shores since 2010/11, and it wasn't to be; we're six days in, and we've lost two Test matches.
It isn't ideal. On paper we look a great team, better than Australia even, especially with the injuries they've got, and with some of the new players they've brought into their side.
But England's in-game intelligence just hasn't been there at all so far, and that's why we're 2-0 down with three to play.
I actually enjoy Bazball, if you're talking about batters going in and playing positively, and being aggressive in bowling and trying to get 10 wickets as quickly as possible.
I enjoy that part of it, but what I don't enjoy is that there's just no common sense to it; it's one way of playing and it's either win or lose.
What have we done in the last few years? Played 30, drawn two, won 14 and lost 14? I mean that sums it up really, for me. If you look at Australia in the same period, they've probably won a lot more games than that...
Over-prepared my a***
I've already spoken about my thoughts on England apparently being over-prepared... my a***! To hear that they were over-prepared going into a Test match... what does that mean for the first Test? We were under-prepared for the first Test and over-prepared for the second, and we're 2-0 down? So, come Adelaide, we've just got to get it just right and we might come back into the series.
They've now gone to Noosa to improve their golf handicaps, which I don't mind at all. Look, a mid-series break isn't a bad idea. The problem is, though, England had 10 days off after losing the first Test, and because they've lost again, they've got another eight or nine days off before the third Test, so they've already had two big breaks since they've been out there.
This should be more of a mental reset and a gameplan reset, than the guys actually being in the nets. I think they're going to find something in the middle, do a little bit of training, talk about the gameplan, and get some common sense put in there.
That's what it looks like from what Ben Stokes has said. He's had enough of no care and no gameplan; now it's about going out there and playing sensibly... let's hope that's the case!
We're 2-0 down with three Tests to play, and people are now talking about a 5-0 being on the cards... I still believe when you look at the averages, and the way this England team plays, I'd expect them to win at some point.
It's a difficult one though when it comes to predicting the final score, because I want to say that England are going to come back and win a Test or two.
I said at the start of the series Australia would win 3-2, and I'm going to stick with that prediction, because I just can't get my head around seeing us lose 5-0.
