Ladbrokes predict England to reach the semi-finals of the tournament this summer

Ladbrokes brings you all you need to know on England ahead of the 2026 World Cup, including odds, confirmed squad, key players, group opponents and predictions for how they will perform in North America this summer.
The Three Lions are bidding to win their first major tournament since 1966, with Thomas Tuchel the latest man tasked with ending 60 years of hurt by finally winning a second World Cup and Ladbrokes has them among the favourites to do just that - though they are not short of fierce competition.
England are third favourites to win the World Cup outright, with 2018 winners France and European champions Spain the two joint frontrunners for glory.
The Three Lions can certainly believe they have a strong chance, though, with Ladbrokes bookies rating their chances higher than defending champions Argentina, as well as international powerhouses Brazil, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands.
Qualification record: 8 wins - 0 draws - 0 losses
Goals for / against: 22 / 0
England were about as close to perfect in qualifying as you can get, sealing their place with maximum points in UEFA Qualification Group K, scoring 22 goals and conceding none.
Albania, Serbia, Latvia and Andorra did not represent the toughest of opponents, but they avoided plenty of banana skins and seemed to improve as they went on in Tuchel's first qualification campaign - with a 5-0 dismantling away at Serbia the highlight.
England’s greatest World Cup triumph remains their iconic 1966 victory on home soil, when Alf Ramsey’s side defeated West Germany 4-2 after extra time in the final at Wembley.
Since then, England have come closest in recent years under Gareth Southgate, reaching the semi-finals in 2018 before losing to Croatia. They also made the quarter-finals in 2022, narrowly falling to France in Qatar.
After decades of underperformance, Southgate undoubtedly restored some pride in the England team once again - and Tuchel's task will be to carry on the good work but take them one step further by finally delivering some silverware.
Tuchel has officially named his England squad for the 2026 World Cup and, despite there being some surprising calls in some areas, most of the established stars have made it onto the plane.
Captain and leading scorer Harry Kane is the clear talisman. The Bayern Munich striker comes into the tournament off the back of a sensational season in Germany which has seen him score an incredible 58 goals in 50 games across all competitions, making him second favourite in the World Cup top goalscorer odds.
Declan Rice is a certain starter in midfield, while Jude Bellingham has already proven his ability to come up with big moments when England need him most, even if there is some debate over his starting spot amid competition from Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden.
Right winger Bukayo Saka remains a key provider for Kane in attack despite a slightly underwhelming season with Arsenal, with Jordan Pickford still the undisputed England No1 behind likely centre-back pairing Ezri Konsa and Marc Guehi.

England have been drawn into Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama in what looks to be one of the more difficult groups at this year's expanded World Cup, though they are still the firm favourites.
Croatia, who they will face in their opening game on June 17, will be well known to many in the England side, with the fellow European nation knocking the Three Lions out in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
African representative Ghana, who England will face for the first time in a competitive match, go in as third favourites to qualify in the group and have plenty of notable players, such as Manchester City's Antoine Semenyo.
The outsiders in England's group are undoubtedly Panama. The Three Lions side won 6-1 the last time they met at the 2018 World Cup but they have since risen to a respectable 33rd in the world.
You can check out our in-depth preview for Group L, including information on all four nations, odds and predictions.
England always go into tournaments with plenty of expectation on their shoulders and the appointment of proven winner Tuchel will only increase that this summer.
A flawless World Cup qualification campaign which saw them win every game without conceding a goal has got plenty excited, but a poor March international camp which saw England draw with Uruguay and lose to Japan exposed a few of their frailties heading into the tournament.
We're expecting another deep run this summer but ultimately our experts are tipping them to fall short in the latter stages once again.
