Liverpool will be looking to end an alarming run of five defeats in six games when they host Crystal Palace at Anfield in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

A 3-2 loss at Brentford on Saturday night was the Premier League champions' fourth straight defeat in the league, a run started by Wednesday's opponents Palace last month as they prepare to renew acquaintances once again.

The Eagles actually haven't won since that 2-1 victory but their record against Liverpool in their last three games stands at two wins and a draw.

The cup clash should allow a chance for some of Liverpool's fringe stars to get some action and few deserve an opportunity more than Federico Chiesa.

Despite featuring in just 110 minutes of a possible 810, the Italian has scored twice and assisted another, one of those the equaliser at Selhurst Park in September.

Chiesa also grabbed two assists against Southampton in the third round, making his 11/5 anytime goalscorer odds seem like a smart pick.

Another player with a good record against his opponents is Palace forward Ismaila Sarr, who has five goals and two assists in eight games versus Liverpool, across spells at both Watford and his current club.

Sarr has found the net in his last three games against the Merseysiders and, as we think last season's FA Cup winners might rotate their side less, the Senegalese looks set to test the Reds defence with a shot on target at least.

Liverpool's porous defence has been a key reason for their struggles and another open and end-to-end game looks likely to be on the cards, particularly given Palace's penchant for a counter-attack.

We think at least three goals being scored at Anfield is a reasonable shout.

Though it's another tough assignment for Arne Slot's men, we think the Carabao Cup will provide them with a welcome distraction and get them back to winning ways, just as the Champions League proved to be last week.

Palace are without a win in their last four games in all competitions and with their Conference League campaign perhaps more important to Oliver Glasner than the cup, this may be one the South Londoners are more content with losing.
