After securing progression in the Champions League, both Liverpool and Newcastle turn their attentions to resurrecting their Premier League campaigns when they face off at Anfield on Saturday night.

The pair suffered defeats to Bournemouth and Aston Villa last time out in the league which saw them lose ground in the hunt for European football next season, with the Reds currently sixth and Eddie Howe's side three places behind in ninth.

A victory for either side would put them right back in contention, however, meaning it's poised to be an entertaining game under the lights on Merseyside.

Our prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle

Two sides who got encouraging results in the Champions League in midweek but both will probably be disappointed with their Premier League campaign so far.

Aside from last season's Carabao Cup final, Liverpool have a pretty flawless record against the Magpies of late, having not lost to them in the league since December 2015. We think the home side will be the ones celebrating again on Saturday night.

Hugo Ekitike continued his impressive maiden season in England with a goal and an assist in the 6-0 win over Qarabag and is set to lead the line again on Saturday evening.

Thirteen goals in all competitions is an impressive return so far and we think he's the best bet to bag another goal here.

With usual yellow-card suspect Joelinton an injury doubt, we have picked the returning Bruno Guimaraes for a booking at Anfield.

Newcastle are one of the most physical teams in the league and will need to adopt that strategy to disrupt the hosts' rhythm. With four yellow cards already this season, the skipper looks like the best bet to find his way into the referee's book.

Newcastle will come up against a hugely depleted backline on Saturday evening, with Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley potentially all ruled out.

The Reds have only kept a clean sheet in seven of their 23 league games this season, so we think both teams could find the net.

Our final pick is for Liverpool to get their first league win of 2026 and continue their impressive record against the Geordies.
