Manchester United: Premier League odds and betting

Jones has doubts over Lammens as Man Utd No1

I don’t think he has the capacity - or experience - right now to deal with being the No1 at Old Trafford, playing in front of 90,000 people. He’ll realise as soon as he comes in just how big the club is.

"The interesting one in the last few days for Manchester United was obviously the goalkeeper situation. There was a bit of talk about Kobbie [Mainoo] going, but a couple of injuries have probably played a part in him staying.

"I think we all thought that the Emi Martinez deal was going to happen, but obviously that wasn’t the case, and in the end the club brought in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

"What I would say about that move, though, is that I always think a No1 at United has to be able to deal with the pressure of wearing that shirt, because it can be a pretty heavy one to wear.

"Don’t get me wrong; it can be a rewarding one at the same time, but I think you’ve got to come in and deal with that pressure straight away.

"I don’t know too much about his journey to Antwerp’s first team, but I don’t think he has the capacity - or experience - right now to deal with being the No1 at Old Trafford, playing in front of 90,000 people. He’ll realise as soon as he comes in just how big the club is.

"Listen, hopefully it goes swimmingly for him and we’ve found ourselves the new No1.

"He might not be No1 at first, we don’t know… but I just think it’s such an important position to get right."

Jones: Sesko needs to start scoring now, not in six months

When you’re a No9 at United, it’s not about taking six months or so to settle… we need you now.

"In terms of Manchester United’s business as a whole this summer, first of all I’d say that Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were both really, really good bits of business.

"Cunha is a player who I’ve admired for many years now; he reminds me of Moussa Dembele - someone who can drive with the ball, he’s powerful, he’s strong, very good technically, he scores goals and he can play in a number of positions – that’s probably something we’ve been missing for a while.

"And then you’ve got Mbeumo, who has already scored a couple of goals for the club and has really impressed me.

"Especially in that first game against Arsenal, I thought the pair of them were terrific – I’m sure we’ll look back on the pair of them at the end of the season and say they were great signings.

"Obviously, Benjamin Sesko has been brought in as well and looks like he could be another good signing. But when you’re a No9 at United, it’s not about taking six months or so to settle… you know, we need you now.

"We’ve seen with Rasmus Hojlund, it just hasn’t worked out for him for one reason or another. It’s certainly not a lack of endeavour on his part; he gave absolutely everything on the pitch, but it just never really came off for him.

"And in his defence, this was all in a struggling side. But, for Sesko, it’s so important he hits the ground running.

"Hopefully he comes back after the international break, gets that elusive goal and it kickstarts his United career."

Ruben Amorim sack and Manchester City match odds

Jones also discussed manager Ruben Amorim's situation at Old Trafford, suggesting that some players don't like the Portuguese boss.

Amorim may have lifted the pressure on his position by leading United to their first win of the season against Burnley, but he remains one of the frontrunners to be the first Premier League manager to leave their post in 2025/26, second only to Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.

After their shocking Carabao Cup exit to League Two Grimsby, reports have emerged that Amorim could be replaced by former England manager Gareth Southgate at Old Trafford.
