  • Liverpool are tipped to add to Tottenham's difficulties at home with a victory on Saturday

  • An entertaining game is expected with more than 3.5 total goals

  • Hugo Ekitike is backed to score again, with Xavi Simons providing an assist

Two underperforming members of the Premier League's so-called 'big six' face off on Saturday evening as Tottenham host Liverpool.

Thomas Frank is under pressure as Spurs boss after just one win in their last seven league matches has them languishing in 11th, their most recent defeat being a poor 3-0 reverse away at Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool are a few places above in seventh after struggling to mount a successful title defence so far this season, leaving them as outsiders to be crowned champions again in 2025/26, although there are signs they are turning a corner after a four-game unbeaten run in the top flight ahead of this game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham vs Liverpool betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 total goals to be scored

This is an encounter that has produced a whopping 31 total goals across the last four league meetings and, with neither side particularly impressing defensively this season, we are expecting that trend to continue on Saturday.

This fixture ended 6-3 to Liverpool around this time last year and while Spurs have shifted from their all-out-attack style they deployed under Ange Postecoglou, all the signs point to another early Christmas present for the neutral with plenty of action to enjoy. The prospect of more than 3.5 goals seems very much on the cards.

Hugo Ekitike to score

Dominik Szoboszlai has scored lots of important goals for Liverpool during a difficult season overall but with the Hungarian an injury doubt for the game, we turn to another of their few players to get some credit for their individual displays this season.

Hugo Ekitike scored both goals in their 2-0 win at Brighton last week, adding to a brace versus Leeds the week before and will be in confident mood to add to his tally of seven league goals in North London.

With Alexander Isak yet to show his best form in a red shirt, the Frenchman will be the man to watch for the Spurs defence.

Xavi Simons to provide an assist

Another player who looks to be finding his feet since a summer move is Tottenham's Xavi Simons, who has registered three goal contributions across his last two home games and is becoming something of a focal point in Frank's attack.

As we've established, this could be a game where both sides excel going forward much more than they do at the back, handing a good opportunity for the Dutch playmaker to chip in with another assist to the likes of Mohammed Kudus or Randal Kolo Muani, both of whom he has shown promising signs of linking up with of late.

Liverpool to win

Rounding off our bet builder is the selection of Liverpool in the match-betting market. While neither have been able to string a particularly convincing run of wins together this season, Liverpool look in slightly better shape ahead of this game.

Spurs' home form is also woeful, with just two wins in eight games at their own ground and it's unlikely there'll be too much confidence among their supporters to improve that record against the champions. As we have done in our Premier League accumulator tips for this week, we're backing an away victory.
