The first factor to consider is the 2026 World Cup, with France and Spain playing their final matches on July 18 and July 19 respectively, less than four weeks before the Super Cup takes place.

A recent article from the BBC looked at the World Cup's impact on club football, where it was explained that players must be given 21 days off during the off-season.

Fifa has mandated three weeks off for players during the off-season.

Aston Villa do have players that this will impact too, such as Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Ezri Konsa, but several of their regular starters either didn't go to the World Cup, or saw their nation knocked out in the earlier stages, meaning they'll be able to start pre-season earlier.

We should also look at the 2025 Super Cup between Tottenham and PSG, where Spurs raced into a 2-0 lead, before goals from Kang-in Lee and Goncalo Ramos, both scored after the 85th minute, sent the game to penalties.

PSG do tend to start seasons off in a slower fashion, as evidenced by their Champions League results over the last two seasons, before clicking into gear as teams across Europe begin to tire by the end of the campaign.

That means that a fresher Aston Villa have the opportunity to catch a slightly underprepared and off-colour PSG side by surprise and score a shock win.

It's worth noting that PSG are the favourites for a reason, given their strength in depth and quality across the pitch, but the factors discussed in this article, as well as their price, suggest betting on Villa to lift the trophy could be worth a punt here.
