Fixture: Switzerland vs Colombia
Competition: World Cup - Round of 16
Date: Tuesday, July 7, 2026
Kick-off: 21:00 BST
Venue: BC Place Vancouver, Canada
Our predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel / Zakaria, Elvedi, Akanji, Rodriguez / Xhaka, Freuler / Ndoye, Manzambi, Vargas / Embolo
Our predicted XI (4-3-3): Vargas / Munoz, Sanchez, Lucumi, Mojica / Lerma, Arias, Puerta / Rodriguez, Suarez, Diaz
Dan Ndoye opened his World Cup account in the 2-0 win over Algeria in the Round of 32, with the Nottingham Forest winger impressing so far in a dangerous Swiss attack which also includes Breel Embolo, Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas.
The 25-year-old was certainly due a goal after averaging 1.3 shots on target per game at this World Cup so far, and after grabbing his first, he'll be in confident mood to test the Colombia goalkeeper with more efforts on goal. Of all the Switzerland attackers, we're tipping Ndoye for at least another shot on target here.
Luis Diaz has unsurprisingly been Colombia's danger man, matching Ndoye's total of 1.3 shots on target per game while also grabbing a goal and assist at the World Cup so far.
A former Premier League winner and current Bundesliga champion who is a regular for Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Diaz is well used to the big stage, so he'll be looking to be the driving force in his team once again as they bid to reach the last eight.
Along with his form shown throughout the tournament so far, we're backing a Diaz shot on target for the South Americans.
This has the makings of a tight affair, with Colombia in particular using their prowess at the back as the cornerstone of their success so far, conceding only once in their four matches. All but one of their games have been decided by a goal or less, including a tense 1-0 victory over Ghana in the Round of 32, with three out of four seeing two goals or fewer.
Two out of Switzerland's four games have also seen under total 2.5 goals, and they are unlikely to put too many past a stubborn Colombian defence, especially with so much at stake. Expect a low-scoring affair in Vancouver between two teams who look difficult to separate.
As mentioned, it feels difficult to separate these two sides and is a match that could end up going to the distance into extra-time or even penalties.
We've backed a draw in our score prediction for 90 minutes, but are opting for a double chance in our bet builder, with either the match ending level after 90 minutes - or Colombia grabbing another narrow win.
