Verdict
Caballo De Mar tailed off in the Gold Cup here in June but a change of equipment has given his career a major new impetus and at Longchamp two weeks ago he beat Scandinavia, who had previously been unmatched in the 2026 staying division. Caballo De Mar should put up a hard fight here as well but he may well have to stand and deliver something very special if St Leger winner HIGHWAYMAN (nap) finds the improvement at 2m which he's been promising by staying on so strongly at 1m6f. Gregory could be a threat to them both judged on the manner of his Newmarket Listed win, while Opportunity might have the edge this time over Daiquiri Bay in a rematch between the Ebor principals.[Richard Austen]
