The last three runnings of the Cumberland Lodge all went to the redoubtable Al Qareem, whose absence for this renewal also has important tactical ramifications, as none of those who do line up are guaranteed to go on and thereby ensure a sound pace. Other factors combine to make this a puzzle but a chance is taken that August's soft-ground Listed winner TENABILITY can serve up something similar on today's going. He did, after all, win a C&D handicap on good to firm last August on his march through the ranks. He's already denied one venerable stablemate this season, in Hamish, and may do the same today with Al Aasy a strong candidate to follow him home. Royal Power, absent since Meydan in March, is third on the list although all are considered.[Richard Austen]
