Verdict
Bay City Roller was a mighty second in the Arc, while Almaqam had a gallant near-miss in the International and impressive Eclipse winner Constitution River is better than he's shown on his two starts since. However, it's likely that they'll all be playing for third place if Calandagan and OMBUDSMAN show up at the top of their games. We are in for an enormous treat if they do, with the brilliance of Ombudsman's two wins in the Prince of Wales's Stakes over C&D suggesting he wasn't quite at his peak when runner-up to Calandagan in this race 12 months ago.
