Verdict
While not quite as dominant as he was, Aidan O'Brien has nevertheless won four of the last eight Chester Vases and did so last year with the subsequent Derby winner Lambourn. This time he runs BENVENUTO CELLINI who is currently a general 4-1 favourite for the Derby, less on the strength of his heavy-ground Futurity defeat than his storming success on much better ground the time before. Water To Wine had looked a fascinating rival for him today but is now a non-runner and Benvenuto Cellini should find that the way is clear for him to make a winning reappearance. O'Brien second string Proposition looks the most interesting of the remainder, ahead of Mr Vettori and Del Maro.[Richard Austen]
