Verdict
While other cases can be made, it may prove best to concentrate on the 3yos MY BALLYQUINN and Devil's Peak who contested the red-hot Melrose Handicap at York last time out. They did not finish in that order - coming 12th and sixth respectively - but both raced a bit too freely in that 1m6f contest and My Ballyquinn did clearly the worst in that respect. He'd won two of his previous four handicaps, however, finishing second in the others, and that earns him narrow preference today, for all that Devil's Peak has clocked up a solid sequence in his blinkers.[Richard Austen]
