Mizdirection (2012 and 2013) and Stormy Liberal (2017 and 2018) were back-to-back winners of this race, and last year's heroine Shisospicy is not discounted despite a subdued effort on her only outing this term. Roja is going the right way, In Our Time has solid form, including over C&D, while fast-finisher Sorrento Sky would come into the reckoning if the early pace is strong. However, the most compelling claims belong to Bacio and Comanche Brave, winners of the Nunthorpe and July Cup respectively. Comanche Brave went on to land the Flying Five most impressively and is much respected, but BACIO is still improving and can extend his winning sequence.[Richard O'Brien]
