This has had a European winner in all but one of the last 11 runnings. Aidan O'Brien's Diamond Necklace and Benvenuto Cellini dominate the betting, with Ryan Moore on board the latter but the odds are very much the other way round. The situation is similar to this month's Arc de Triomphe in that Benvenuto Cellini has a low draw, whereas Diamond Necklace is much wider out, but that didn't stop the filly having a much smoother passage last time, putting up a bold show, whereas Benvenuto Cellini never figured after one of his slow starts. Bay City Roller pipped Diamond Necklace for second in the Arc and has since squeezed in his third in the Champion Stakes. He's a possible option for front-running and there are very few of those. A lack of pace up front would count against last year's winner Ethical Diamond and may well make an open-looking race even more open, with the British-trained mares SURVIE and Tiffany also capable of having a major say in the outcome. Both have met with major success in the USA this season and Survie's powerful late challenge might see her emerge on top here as well, in front of Diamond Necklace.[Richard Austen]
