Arsenal begin the new season as champions and favourites in the Premier League outright winner odds, and the fixture list has handed them a Friday night opener with a bit of edge. Coventry arrive as Championship winners, back in the top flight and looking to make a statement under Frank Lampard.
Ladbrokes previews Arsenal vs Coventry with a correct-score prediction, predicted line-ups and a four-leg Bet Builder. The Gunners should dominate the ball at Emirates Stadium, but Coventry’s hard-working midfield and new arrivals give this opener a few interesting betting angles.

Riccardo Calafiori set the tone for Arsenal’s season by scoring inside the opening minute against Manchester City in the Community Shield. Calafiori should keep his place and continue to offer that aggressive running down the left side. Against a Coventry side likely to sit deep for spells, his willingness to arrive in shooting areas makes 1+ shot on target an interesting opening leg.
Christos Tzolis could hardly have asked for a better Arsenal introduction, playing a major part in the 3-0 Community Shield win, setting up two goals. Arsenal signed him after a highly productive spell with Club Brugge, where his output across goals and assists made him one of the Belgian league’s standout attackers, and that should continue here.
Arsenal arrive with momentum after brushing Man City aside in Cardiff, and the champions have home advantage for the Premier League curtain-raiser. Coventry deserve respect after winning the Championship, but this is a sharp rise in class against a settled Arsenal side already carrying competitive rhythm. We’re backing Mikel Arteta’s team to control the game and open with three points.
Frank Onyeka gives Coventry Premier League experience and midfield bite, which should be vital in a game where Lampard’s side may spend long spells without the ball. His five cards in 13 Championship starts last season point to a combative midfielder who was regularly involved in the play. Against Odegaard, Bruno Guimaraes and Arsenal’s runners between the lines, Onyeka looks a clear candidate to be drawn into making fouls.
