We've got a busy day at Chepstow, starting with three in the Juvenile Hurdle. Solar Jet is new to us, having had some moderate form on the Flat. But his brother - Ice Jet - did exactly the same last year and has gone on to win a heap of races for us throughout the summer. Ice Jet actually started in this race last year, too. I'm not expecting fireworks, but he's jumped nicely so I'd like to think he'll run ok.
Whistling Dave has never ran before, over hurdles or Flat. We've done loads with him though, and the more he's doing, the better he's getting. But he's got no experience, which you'd have to think is a negative here. I'd like to see him run well anyway.
That leaves us with Sacre Chef, who Harry [Skelton] rides. He's ran on the Flat in France and I like what I've seen at home; his jumping is slick and efficient. He's quite a forward horse who I'd like to think will go well here. I've not got any negatives there with him really.
We've got two in the Four Year Old Hurdle: Edelak and Made U Blush. Edelak is paying the penalty of being very good in the summer months, and has got a massively inflated handicap mark. I think a lot of these summer horses are going to be having inflated marks which means they just cannot be competitive in the autumn. I have spoken to the handicappers about this - I think this is a great example of a horse that has overachieved in the summer, and given himself a handicap mark where he is completely distorted against the others.
For instance, Made U Blush has won a listed race, and finished second in a graded race, and he has to give her 11lbs. I just can't see how Edelak has a chance, to be honest with you. But we've got to get out there, right? The handicapper wants to see him, so he'll have to see him... off his mark, though, I think the handicapper is miles wrong.
Made U Blush does have a chance though. She didn't win a handicap last time, so you can't say she's got a stone in hand, or anything like that, but it was a competitive race and she ran really well. We've trained her for this race, and I think the track will suit her, so she'd have to have a chance. It's pretty competitive though.
You can definitely say the maiden hurdle is a competitive one, and we've got Hitintheheadlines in there. Two-and-a-half miles around this track will suit him, but like I said, it's super competitive. I think he'll improve a fraction for the run and he should run tidily.
Miss Cynthia runs in a mares' handicap hurdle. She won for us last year and is in good form at home. The trip and the track are ideal, and I think she has to go and run nicely. I don't think that she's one where we'd say we definitely have a stone in hand, but she should run well.
We've got three in the Silver Trophy - Boombawn isn't really a hurdler, but I'm struggling with somewhere to get him started, and I want to get a run in him on some nice ground, so I thought we'd have a look over hurdles. He is actually lower over hurdles, but I can't really think that he is a hurdler.
Take No Chances has run in this race for the last two years and has done well in it without being able to get the better of the handicapper. I don't see why this year is any different, but she should run well here. She likes the track and should be tidy.
We've had this race in mind for The Mighty Celt for some time, and the step up in trip will really suit him. Yes, he's only four, but he wants that step up in trip. He looks great and we've trained him for it - he should be bang there, to be honest. He's got some good form from last year, and I think he's only better this time around.
Northern Singer runs in the mares' bumper, she's got some point-to-point experience and has run nicely at home. She'd have to be up there. When you're running in bumpers, you obviously don't know a lot about your opposition, but I do think she'll go well.
