We start with one of the most evenly-matched games as Netherlands and Germany both begin new eras under managers Xavi and Jurgen Klopp, who are also both stepping into international football for the first time.

Both teams were disappointed with their 2026 World Cup campaigns as they exited in the Round of 32, so they will hope their new managers can make them a force in international football once again.

Ladbrokes' odds make the hosts slight favourites for this game but we think it is too hard to call, so are opting for a draw in our first pick.

Portugal vs Wales

Portugal to win

Reigning Nations League champions Portugal are also beginning life under a new manager following a disappointing World Cup, but new man Jorge Jesus will be confident of winning a favourable first game in charge against Wales.

Wales secured promotion to the top division in the previous Nations League and have shown steady signs of improvement under Craig Bellamy despite missing out on World Cup qualification.

Even so, a trip to Lisbon to face one of Europe's toughest sides looks a tall order for the Dragons, so we're going with a Selecao victory.

Italy vs Belgium

Italy to win

Italy are still reeling from missing out on their third successive World Cup this summer, and have turned back to Roberto Mancini to try and halt their decline.

Mancini guided the Azzurri to European glory in 2021, while they have a good Nations League record having reached the finals in three of the four previous editions, with two of those coming under the former Manchester City boss.

Belgium failed to convince at this summer's World Cup, with Mark van Bommel now in charge, and we think Italy have the edge for this game at home.

Turkey vs France

France to win

Something of a new era seems to be taking place in international football, with another new manager Zinedine Zidane taking charge of France after succeeding successful former boss Didier Deschamps.

France were taught a lesson by Spain in the World Cup semi-finals but overpowered most of their other opponents, with Turkey unlikely to pose too many issues for Kylian Mbappe and Co.

As the odds suggest, it could be a comfortable evening for Les Bleus as Zidane gets his international career off to the perfect start.
