The Ashes: Australia vs England 2nd Test betting odds and prediction

Ladbrokes brings you its odds and prediction for the second Ashes Test in Brisbane
England 1-0 down after batting collapse in Perth
Australia favourites to take 2-0 series lead
The Ashes continues Down Under with the second Test in Brisbane, which will be played with a pink ball under the lights in only the third ever day-night Ashes game.
It was a remarkable series opener in Perth, with the match concluded inside two days after (another) England batting collapse was followed by an extraordinary Travis Head century as Australia cantered to victory by eight wickets.
There were signs of encouragement for England but it was a familiar tale as they threw away a strong position with some questionable shot-making, and this already looks like a must-win for the visitors. Ladbrokes brings you its odds, preview and prediction ahead of the second Test at the Gabba.
The Ashes 2nd Test odds, preview, prediction
England have made one change to their lineup from the first Test, with all-rounder Will Jacks coming in for the injured Mark Wood. Spin can have an important role during the sunlight hours of day-night matches, ensuring the quicks are well-rested for when the pink ball will be moving around under the floodlights. Jacks is more of a part-timer compared to the alternative spinner Shoaib Bashir, but offers greater depth with the bat, which looks necessary after England lost 20 wickets in 67.3 overs in Perth.
Australia have delayed naming their XI until the day of the game, with rumours that captain Pat Cummins could be in line for a sensational return from injury despite not being named in the squad. That would be a huge psychological boost for the hosts and a blow for the reeling visitors. Nathan Lyon is sure to have a more prominent role after bowling just two overs in Perth, while no player has more wickets in day-night Tests than Mitchell Starc, which is not exactly what England fans want to hear after he terrorised their batters last week with a ten-wicket haul.
England were 65-1 in their second innings on the second day with a lead of 105, a commanding position when neither side had surpassed 172 in their first innings. What followed was a meltdown to add to the long list of storied collapses in English cricket history, as they slipped to 104-7 and were eventually all out for 164.
Travis Head then produced a remarkable knock, hitting 123 off 83 balls at the top of the order, as the Aussies cruised to an unlikely victory within two days. England's bowlers, who were brilliant in bowling the hosts out for 132 first time around, had no answer for Head and seemed affected by the quick turnaround; they bowled 3mph slower on average compared to the first innings.
The 'Gabbatoir' has been Australia's fortress in years gone by and is usually the first instalment of an Ashes series Down Under. England have not won here in 39 years, with two draws and seven losses since then, the highlight being Strauss and Cook's magnificent batting securing a draw in 2010/11. However, the Baggy Greens have lost two of their last five Tests at the Gabba, having been unbeaten in thirty-one before then.
Australia are the favourites to win again in Brisbane at odds of 1/2, with England priced at 2/1 to bounce back from defeat in Perth, and a draw odds of 12/1. The hosts are heavily backed to win the series outright at odds of 2/9, while England are 9/2 to complete an unlikely comeback and a drawn series is 10/1.

Australia vs England 2nd Test prediction
England's batting didn't exactly inspire much confidence in Perth, and the potential return of Cummins for this game is not a pleasant thought. Brendan McCullum and Ben Stokes are unlikely to retreat from the famous 'Bazball' approach and could even double down, with it likely to be another short Test match either way. If England's bowlers can reproduce their performance from the first innings, then they will definitely have a chance. However, the threat of Starc with the pink ball will likely prove too much for England's defences once again, and we think Australia will go 2-0 up in Brisbane to take firm charge of the series.
