Gary O'Neil is the overwhelming favourite in Ladbrokes' next Wolves manager odds market, with the coach set to make a surprise return to Molineux.

The Premier League's bottom side, who sacked Vitor Pereira after a winless start to the season, look set to turn back to their former boss, having himself been replaced by the Portuguese less than 12 months ago.

O'Neil has seen his odds on a Wolves return slashed, putting him far ahead in the running against other contenders including former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and Rob Edwards.

Next Wolves manager odds: O'Neil set for return

O'Neil was dismissed by Wolves in December 2024 with the club 19th on nine points. Eleven months on, and the outlook is even more troublesome with Pereira sacked after picking up just two points from their first 10 games following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Fulham.

As a result, they are now one of the favourites for the drop in Ladbrokes' Premier League relegation odds.

After a chaotic period which involved Pereira regularly clashing with fans, the Wolves board clearly think O'Neil can come in and steady the ship again, with his odds slashed to 4/6 to replace the man who replaced him.

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said:

Not even a year after Wolves sacked him, Gary O’Neil is the surprise overwhelming favourite to return to the dugout at Molineux.

Ex-Man United boss Erik ten Hag is another surprise name in second, with the Dutch boss most recently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen before he was sacked just two games in the Bundesliga season.

Brendan Rodgers, now out of work after departing Celtic, is next in line with odds of 7/1 for a move back to England's top flight having enjoyed spells at Liverpool and Leicester.

Rob Edwards, a former player for the club who currently has Middlesbrough chasing promotion in the Championship, is just behind Rodgers at 8/1, with Michael Carrick fifth in line at 10/1.

Below are the odds for the 12 favourites to take over the relegation-threatened club, with other names including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ange Postecoglou and Edin Terzic.
