Brighton currently sit 9th after three games, one place below where they finished in 2025/26. A superb performance on the opening day saw them beat Aston Villa 4-0, before an entertaining 4-3 defeat at Chelsea was followed by a 1-1 draw with Leeds. Coventry have struggled in their first Premier League campaign in 25 years, albeit faced tough trips to Arsenal and Man City in the opening weeks. Fabian Hurzeler's Albion side should have too much quality for the newcomers as well, and we're predicting a 2-0 win.
It's hard to blame Coventry for not finding the back of the net at the Emirates and the Etihad, but their 1-0 home defeat to fellow promoted side Hull was undoubtedly concerning. Frank Lampard's team is still largely similar to the one that won the Championship, following a different strategy to Hull and Ipswich, who have tried to replicate the successful big-spending of Sunderland and Leeds last season. The Sky Blues are lacking in quality in forward areas, and we think they could draw another blank here.
Nominal full-back Maxim De Cuyper has started the season in fantastic form as a left-winger, with a goal and two assists in his first three games. He's helped fill the void left by injuried to Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma, and we're tipping De Cuyper to continue his good form with at least one shot on target against Coventry.
Taiwo Awoniyi's goals will be key to Coventry's chances of survival this season, with the Nigerian striker scoring 10 in his debut Premier League campaign with Nottingham Forest in 2022/23, including the winner against Arsenal which kept them up. He's struggled for fitness and form since, which led him to leave for Coventry this summer, but has proven he can score at this level. We're backing Awoniyi to have at least one shot on target against Brighton.
