The relegation dogfight in the Premier League looks set to go down to the final day, with the unthinkable prospect of Spurs going down continuing to look more and more likely. West Ham put in their best performance of the season in last Friday's 4-0 win at home to Wolves, a crucial and timely result that moved them out of the bottom three. The Irons are now 17th, two points above Spurs in 18th with six games left to play.
Crystal Palace are 14th and have all but secured top-flight status for another season, and their attention can now fully switch to the Europa Conference League, where they have reached the semi-finals. The Eagles did beat Newcastle 2-1 in their previous league game, but that was just their fourth home league win this season and came against a Newcastle side whose own campaign is petering out.
Palace have a couple of injury concerns and no reason to risk them here, which will give encouragement to a buoyant West Ham side who appear united at a crucial stage of the season. The Hammers have won three of their past five trips to Selhurst Park, and we're predicting that they'll emerge with another huge win to boost their survival hopes and plunge rivals Tottenham further into crisis.
Although neither side have lit up the Premier League going forward this season, both teams have scored in nine of the last eleven meetings between Palace and West Ham. The Eagles have scored five goals in their last two home games against Newcastle and Fiorentina, while the Hammers have kept just three clean sheets on the road this season. So in line with our 1-2 prediction, we're picking both teams to score as part of our Palace vs West Ham bet builder.
West Ham's captain Jarrod Bowen continues to deliver, with the England forward at the centre of everything good the Irons did in their win over Wolves. Bowen provided two assists and was a constant threat throughout, and a player of his class and personality could make a decisive difference in this relegation battle.
He now has eight goals and eight assists in the league this season, and signings in January have allowed him to move back to his favoured right-wing position. Bowen was unlucky not to score against Wolves, but did have a shot on target, and we're backing West Ham's key man to make an impact again by having at least one shot on target again.
With midfielder Adam Wharton withdrawn against Fiorentina after suffering a reoccurrence of the adductor injury he picked up while on England duty, Oliver Glasner may not risk one of his star men in a match that means little to Palace. That paves the way for Jefferson Lerma to start again, as he did against Newcastle.
The Colombia international has been a great servant over the years for the Eagles, occasionally filling in at defence as well as midfield, and has become renowned for his tough-tackling style. That has got him into trouble with the referee sometimes, with Lerma picking up at least eight bookings in each of the last two seasons. He's currently on six yellow cards for this campaign, five of which have come at Selhurst Park. We're tipping Lerma to be shown another card on Monday night.
