Risky Obsession is in good form and I think the nice ground will really suit him. The track is absolutely perfect for him as well, so I am looking forward to getting out there with him. He shouldn’t have run at Newbury last year on really bad ground. That was a big error, but he is in good form for this.
Barnpark ran OK at Worcester a few weeks ago, although he did underwhelm a little. This trip is much more like it, and I want to see him run a race that reflects that. I don’t necessarily expect him to win, but I want to see a good bit better than what I saw at Worcester and something to build on. Three-mile chasing is really his game, and he would have an each-way squeak.
Lyssenko runs in a handicap hurdle and is new to us. He’s won three races in France and is very versatile from what I can tell. His work has been nice, so let’s see how well handicapped he is. I would expect him to run well. He is a horse that knows how to win and has a nice weight.
Royal Infantry runs in this novice chase, and it’s a competitive little affair. He has the benefit of a run over fences, and he won that day, so that looks quite positive for him. He is in good form, and the track and trip will be fine.
Mirabad runs in the rearranged Haldon Gold Cup, and it’s a race we’ve had in mind for some time. He ran over hurdles the other day at Carlisle and did better than expected. I couldn’t believe how well he ran, and I am looking forward to this. I have no negatives, and he should run really well around a track where he has won a Grade 1.
I think this is a very competitive race, although there is lots of pace, which will really suit his hold-up style. Let’s see how he goes. I think this is harder than Cheltenham, if I’m honest, and we’ll see how much he has in hand. I think he will run well, but I’d stop short of saying he will be pounds better than his current mark. He should go well.
I think he will go very close here. There is a lot of unfinished business with him, and he appears to be favourably handicapped. He had a good run at Kelso last year, and he has done loads of work. I don’t have any excuses; he has got to go and run well.
The Mad Poet is a nice horse, but he will probably want further than this in time. He ran in some nice bumpers last year, and I think he is definitely going to be a better jumper. He may just improve a bit for this run.
We also run Wet Sail, a horse of my dad’s. She didn’t show enough last time, if I am honest, and I think she looks more of a chaser down the line.
