Premier League transfers in January
The winter transfer window closed on Monday night and there were some big stories on the final day with Christian Eriksen returning to the Premier League with Brentford.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal to join Barcelona on a free transfer and Newcastle snapped up Brighton defender Dan Burn and Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett a day after signing Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for £35m from Lyon.

Frank Lampard was appointed manager of Everton and he brought in Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan and Dele Alli from Tottenham on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey had been linked with a return to the Premier League, but opted to join Scottish giants Rangers on loan until the end of the season.
It was an exciting day as we look at the Premier League transfers in January for all 20 clubs throughout the course of the month.
Arsenal
The Gunners’ main transfer business saw former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join Barcelona on a free transfer in the last few minutes before the window shut.
Mikel Arteta sent several players out on loan and Calum Chambers joined Aston Villa for free, but the club did not bring in a single player.

Aston Villa
Villa were very active during the transfer window, bringing in former Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona and left-back Lucas Digne from Everton.

The Bees had been fairly quiet with Premier League transfers in January, but that all changed on the final day with the capture of Christian Eriksen in a deal until the end of the season.
The former Tottenham midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest with Denmark at Euro 2020 and became a free agent having left Inter Milan, but he is back in the Premier League after successfully completing a medical.

Brighton
Graham Potter made two signings on transfer deadline day, but centre-back Dan Burn joined boyhood club Newcastle for a reported £13m.
German striker Denis Unzav joined on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported £6m, but will spend the rest of the season with the Belgian leaders just like his team-mate Kacper Kozlowski who had joined Brighton earlier in the window in a deal worth almost £10m.
Porto winger Benicio Baker-Boaitey also joined on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Burnley
The Clarets’ winter transfer window was looking disastrous after they lost star striker Chris Wood to relegation rivals Newcastle and a deal to sign Mislav Orsic fell through.
However, Burnley signed burly Dutch forward Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg on transfer deadline day to make up for the disappointment of missing out on Orsic at the weekend.
The Blues have not added any new names to what is already a strong squad and Romelu Lukaku is staying having cleared the air with manager Thomas Tuchel over an interview he gave about how unhappy he was at Stamford Bridge.
The Eagles made a couple of signings on deadline day, Jean-Philippe Mateta making his loan move from Mainz permanent on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Teenage striker Luke Plange also joined Palace from Derby for £1m plus add-ons, but was immediately loaned back to the Championship club.

Everton
It’s been all change at Goodison Park where Frank Lampard was appointed manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract as a replacement for Rafael Benitez who was sacked after a 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

Lampard’s first signing was a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, who has struggled for game time at Old Trafford, and he was joined by Tottenham’s Dele Alli.
The pair join Vitaliy Mykolenko, Nathan Patterson and Anwar El Ghazi at Everton, who sold Lucas Digne to Aston Villa during the transfer window

Leeds
The Whites made just one signing during the transfer window, Mateo Joseph Fernandez from Espanyol for an undisclosed fee, although he is set to play for the under-23s initially.
Leeds fans kept their fingers crossed that Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips remained at the club and that is exactly what happened although they will be disappointed not to have seen more incomings.

Leicester
It was an underwhelming transfer window for the Foxes who brought in just one new recruit, 17-year-old striker Amani Richards from Arsenal, although he will link up with the club’s under-18s.
A few players left on loan, but otherwise it was a very quiet window for manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool
The Reds made the biggest winter signing with the capture of 25-year-old Colombia forward Luis Diaz who joined from Porto for an initial £37.5m.
Jurgen Klopp was keen to bring in a new attacker with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino turning 30 this summer and all out of contract next year.

Manchester City
City made just one signing on deadline day, 22-year-old River Plate winger Julian Alvarez for a fee believed to be in the region of £14m, although the Argentina international will remain on loan at the club until the summer.
The biggest deal of January involved the £55m move of Ferran Torres to Barcelona which has left City without a central striker now that Gabriel Jesus is playing out wide.
Torres’ departure seems to have made little difference to City’s title aspirations although their 12-game winning run in the Premier League was ended by Southampton in a 1-1 draw before the winter break.

Newcastle
The Magpies were the most active during the transfer window and Eddie Howe made two additions to his squad on deadline day, left-back Matt Targett joining on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season and Brighton centre-back Dan Burn signing for a reported £13m.
Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was their biggest signing of the window, moving to St James’ Park from Lyon for a reported initial fee of around £35m a day earlier.
Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier joined the club for a combined £37m at the start of the month.

Norwich
The Canaries moved out of the relegation zone before the winter break with back-to-back wins against Everton and Watford, but made no Premier League transfers in January.
However, a handful of players were sent out on loan, including Todd Cantwell who joined Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth.
Norwich remain 2/7 favourites to make an immediate return to the Championship.

Tottenham
After a quiet window, Spurs suddenly burst into life as director of football Fabio Paratici returned to former club Juventus to sign Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, but Dele Alli joined Van de Beek at Everton.
Uruguay midfielder Bentancur signed a four-and-a-half-year deal for an inital £15.9m which could rise to £20.9m, while Sweden winger Kulusevski joined on an 18-month loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent for £29.2m if certain objectives are met.
We have reached agreement with Everton for the transfer of Dele.
Three players left the club on loan, with Tanguy Ndombele rejoining Lyon, while Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso headed to Valencia and Villarreal respectively.

Watford
Relegation-threatened Watford sacked manager Claudio Ranieri this month but there were a handful of new signings at Vicarage Road, many of which were brought in during the Italian’s reign.
New manager Roy Hodgson has had to deal with several players being away on international duty and recently lost Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr to the Africa Cup of Nations having recovered from injury, but did not bring in any more new recruits to what he has described as a “big squad”.
West Ham were in the market for a centre-back and a striker but there were no Premier League transfers in January for the Hammers, who had been linked with Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Wolves’ biggest transfer window story saw Adama Traore return to his former club Barcelona on loan. The 26-year-old winger joined the Liga giants for the rest of the season with an option to make the deal permanent.
