Eagles vs Cowboys odds, preview and predictions
Eagles open as touchdown favourites
Philadelphia enter the opener as favourites by around a touchdown againat their rivals, underlining their status as one of the main contenders in the Super Bowl betting odds. Jalen Hurts leads a champion roster that remains largely intact, while Brian Schottenheimer takes charge of his first game as Cowboys head coach, after being promoted from his role as offensive coordinator.
Dallas face a major challenge without defensive star Micah Parsons, who was traded to Green Bay for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark, after years as the focal point of their defense. Parsons had at least 12 sacks in each of his four seasons in Dallas, and replacing that elite production will be highly challenging.
Clark should strengthen a Cowboys unit that ranked 29th against the run in 2024, but Week 1 brings the toughest possible assignment with Saquon Barkley fresh from a 2,000-yard season, along with dual-threat QB Hurts and the Eagles trademark 'Tush-Push'.
The points total is set at 47.5, reflecting both the uncertainty surrounding Dallas’ reshaped defense and the firepower of two high-powered offenses.
Key to the success of Barkley and Hurts is the Eagles offensive line, arguably the best in the NFL, and Hurts also has weapons such as AJ Brown, Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert at his disposal.
The Cowboys passing offense should thrive again with Dak Prescott throwing to CeeDee Lamb and new arrival George Pickens, but questions remain about their running-back options.
Saquon Barkley headlines anytime touchdown scorer market
Saquon Barkley leads the anytime touchdown scorer market, after a sensational 2024 where he rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored 15 total TDs in his first year with the Eagles. Jalen Hurts is never far behind in these markets after crossing the line 14 times last year, combining the unstoppable “tush push” at the goal line with his mobility to score from further out.
A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith add proven red-zone quality for Philly, while Dallas will look to star receiver CeeDee Lamb alongside George Pickens, acquired in a trade from the Steelers, to provide Prescott with scoring outlets. Javonte Williams steps in as lead back for the Cowboys and is another option to find the end zone.
Hurts and Lamb drive the player prop markets
Jalen Hurts is in play on both passing and rushing prop bets, with his dual-threat game keeping him relevant across the board. Dak Prescott’s passing yards total looks the key number for Dallas, especially if the Cowboys are chasing from behind.
This matchup showcases two of the league’s top wideout tandems. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both enjoyed 100 yard games against Dallas last season and remain central to Philadelphia’s passing attack.
For the Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb is the primary target, and the arrival of George Pickens in a trade from Pittsburgh should give him more freedom as a downfield threat.
Saquon averaged a remarkable 125.3 rushing yards per game in 2024 and looks set to reprise a similar role after driving Philadelphia’s ground game to another level. Dallas, meanwhile, continue their backfield merry-go-round. Javonte Williams takes over as RB1 after years in Denver’s rotation, stepping into a role that has lacked stability in recent seasons.
Eagles vs Cowboys prediction, best bets
Philly will be in a celebratory mood as the Super Bowl champions kick off the new season, and there could hardly be a greater contrast for Cowboys fans, still in shock from one of their best players being traded away.
Prescott's return from injury and the pairing of Lamb and Pickens will provide encouragement, but Philadelphia have one of the league's most complete rosters and their young defense could even go up another level. It is difficult to see how to stop the Eagles offense, as they can burn you in so many different ways.
We think the Eagles kick off the 2025 NFL season with a win in their home opener, and beat the handicap in doing so.
Prediction: Eagles 31-20 Cowboys
Best bets:
Jalen Hurts over 35.5 rushing yards
Saquon Barkley over 96.5 rushing yards
Devonta Smith anytime touchdown
