Liverpool made it four Premier League wins in a row when they beat West Ham 5-2 at Anfield at the weekend, a result that moved them up to 5th after Chelsea lost at Arsenal. The Reds' title defence has not gone to plan so far, but they've found some form recently after a poor spell in the autumn.
Wolves picked up just their second league win of the season in a joyous 2-0 derby win over Aston Villa, but Rob Edwards' side remain rooted to the bottom of the table. That win took them to 13 points, past Derby's infamous record, but a great escape would still appear highly unlikely.
The visitors have won their last six against Wolves, and discovered some solidity on the road with four clean sheets in their last five away games in all competitions. With that in mind, we're predicting Arne Slot's men to leave Molineux with a 2-0 victory.
Of all Liverpool's summer signings, Hugo Ekitike has been an unmitigated success and already looks a star. The French forward starred again against West Ham, with a goal and two assists, and he's now got sixteen goals in all competitions in his debut season in England. Ekitike looks set to lead the line again, and we're backing him to make an impact by having two or more shots on target.
Yerson Mosquera played a crucial part in Wolves' rearguard effort against Villa, and has established himself as a key player under Rob Edwards, starting every game since he took charge. The Colombian international, usually deployed on the right of a back three, did collect another yellow card against Villa, taking his tally to ten for the season. No Premier League player has topped that this season, and we're tipping Mosquera to get booked again here, with Ekitike and Cody Gakpo potentially giving him a tough afternoon.
In a season of few bright spots for Wolves, the emergence of 18-year-old wonderkid Mateus Mane has certainly been one. The Portugal-born England youth international, who can play as a number ten or on the wing, has now started the last twelve league games, and plays with a dynamism and directness that Wolves have lacked all season. Mane has had 2+ shots in three of his last five games, and averages 2.24 shots per 90 minutes this season, so we're selecting that as the final leg of our Wolves vs Liverpool bet builder.
