As thousands of fans packed the Mineirao for one of the most highly anticipated World Cup fixtures in recent memory, nobody could have foreseen such a disastrous collapse from Brazil - in front of their own fans - who eventually fell to the largest semi-final defeat in World Cup history.

The 2014 semi-final started well enough for Brazil, who showed attacking intent right from the off with a shot from Marcelo in the opening minutes, but it didn't take long for Germany to make their move - scoring from their first corner of the game. The ball fell kindly for Thomas Muller to volley home in the 11th minute, setting Joachim Low's side on their way.
The Selecao then reacted in decent fashion, forcing the Germans into some strong defending, before everything started to unravel in the 23rd minute - with Miroslav Klose scoring a record-breaking goal. Tidy play between a number of Germany players worked the ball to Klose in the box, who scored at the second attempt to net his sixteenth World Cup goal - a record that still stands today.
It then only took one minute for Germany to score again, with Lahm's cross from the right finding the left boot of Toni Kroos, who smashed home from the edge of the box to stun the Brazilian fans, before the same man grabbed his second within seconds of the restart. Kroos tackled Fernandinho before finding Sami Khedira, who rolled it back to his teammate for a tap in, making it 4-0 to Germany inside half an hour.
Provider then turned scorer three minutes later as Khedira got in on the action, scoring a carbon copy of Kroos' strike just moments before. A marauding run from Mats Hummels ended with the ball dropping to Khedira, whose neat one-two with Mesut Ozil left him with an open goal to slot into, bringing the first-half goalscoring to a close.
Half time: Brazil 0-5 Germany
Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari made a couple of changes at half time, bringing on Paulinho and Ramires in an attempt to turn the tide, and while the hosts did start to show some attacking threat, the damage had already been done. The Germans weren't going to settle for five, with substitute Andre Schurrle getting his name on the scoresheet in the 69th minute, as more tidy play down the Germany right culminated in a simple finish for the attacker to pass it home for six.
Ten minutes later, the same man made it seven with arguably the goal of the game, as his left-footed half-volley crashed in off the underside of the bar from a relatively tight angle, rubbing salt in the wounds of all the heartbroken Brazil fans - many of whom were in tears long before this point.
Brazil finally earned their moment in the 90th minute, with Oscar receiving a long ball before skipping past Jerome Boateng and firing in for one of football's most memorable consolation goals, but it was Germany's day, with the victors also overtaking Brazil as the highest-scoring team in World Cup history thanks to this mauling in Belo Horizonte.
Full time: Brazil 1-7 Germany
Ladbrokes is celebrating the World Cup countdown with a new price boost every day between now and the start of the tournament, with today's offer looking at England's Group L campaign and knockout run.
The price of England winning all three group games and eventually reaching the quarter-finals has been boosted to 3/1, and with the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham in their ranks, this seems a valuable pick - especially as the Three Lions' route to the final eight could be relatively kind.
