Emile Heskey gives his verdict on England's World Cup squad named by Thomas Tuchel
The ex-Three Lions striker believes Tuchel has made some brave calls and believes the German will remain in charge after the World Cup
Heskey speaks of his experience at both being left out of a squad and making a squad at the expense of others

Emile Heskey speaks exclusively to Ladbrokes ahead of England's 2026 World Cup campaign, delivering his verdict on Thomas Tuchel's squad selection and predicting how the Three Lions will get on in North America.
Tuchel's squad was not short of controversy, with huge stars like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold all missing out on the tournament, but ex-England striker Heskey believes the German has made the sort of brave calls that previous managers were scared to do.
He said: "These couple of weeks before a major tournament are difficult, because there's definitely an element of not really wanting to move, or go anywhere, through fear of getting injured. But you can't really give that kind of thing much thought, because you'd get nothing done.
"You've got to be careful that you don't really think that way. With a couple of weeks to go, you're just excited to get out there and start training, getting acclimatised and ready to go and do battle.Â
"Thomas Tuchel is right to keep a lot of things guarded, and to himself. You can't just be throwing things out there in interviews, and then all of a sudden wonder things aren't going great. Germans are quite straight to the point in everything they say and do anyway, but it looks like he's getting the lads on his side, and that's the main thing.
"Honestly, if you can get your players buying into what you're doing, you've done half of your job. It's when you lose them; that's the problem. It's very tough to get them back once you've lost them. But if you can get them on your side, it's fine.
"I think he'll be managing England after this World Cup. He's made some very, very interesting decisions that others have refused to make in previous years, because they wanted an easy life.Â
"They wanted an easy life from players, from the media, and from the fans. So I'm happy that he's made some of the decisions that he's made. Look, you can dwell on too many things and just find yourself stuck in a rut.
"I'm happy that he's done things the way he's done them - and I think he'll stay on, whatever happens.
"I have no doubt that he's picked the right players though. I'm most looking forward to seeing Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford, especially Marcus after a great season for Barcelona.
"And then, obviously, Harry Kane. You know... off the back of 60 goals this season - I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for us.Â
"In terms of how this summer looks for England, my expectation is a semi-final. Hopefully we can go one better and make the final, with a bit of luck.
"You do need a bit of luck along the way, and we have had that in previous years. I'd like to think we can make it to another final."
Heskey added: "On the whole, I think the squad is probably right. Yeah, there's one or two you might look at and have a couple of questions about, but you can never get it spot on.
"You know, the biggest problem is the number 10 role, and the issue is that we've got too many good players in that position. Some haven't had great seasons, as well, so you can understand why they've been left out.
"Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are probably the standout two who have missed out - we've seen them deliver in years gone by and we know what they're capable of doing.
"But, like I said, if you haven't had a good season, and then you've got others in your position who have had good seasons, then you're stuck in a really difficult place.
"It's a tough one for them to take, for sure. But they have to go again and look to get themselves back into contention.Â
"I've been in both situations, where I have and haven't made squads. I suppose 2006 was a little different for me, because I never really thought I'd get into that squad, as it had been so long since I'd last played for England.
"It was easier for me to take in that sense. That year, I think it would have been difficult for Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe to take that year - because they both deserved to go.
"I would say though, even though I knew I wasn't going to be a part of that squad, I knew I'd get the opportunity to play for my country again. And when the opportunity comes, you've got to take it with both hands.Â
"For those missing out on the squad, and I can only talk from experience, this summer should be about enjoying family time and getting away.
"They'll be mentally tired, so go away, relax and watch the games - enjoy the time off."
