Manchester City's fate is now in their own hands after their momentous 2-1 victory over title rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Pep Guardiola's side have once again hit form at the right time, unbeaten in ten league games with just one loss in twenty, while the pressure appears to have got to Mikel Arteta's men yet again. A win for City at Turf Moor would take them top of the league - with Arsenal having led for the past 200 days - while all-but relegating Burnley.
In a must-win game for Burnley, they couldn't have asked for a tough opponent. The Clarets have lost fourteen in a row against Man City and are without a win in nineteen, with Burnley managing just one victory against City since 1974. A defeat here would essentially relegate Burnley due to their goal difference, leaving them twelve points from safety with four games to play.
We see nothing to suggest that record is about to change; Burnley have won just one league game since the end of October and have two wins at home all season. City look in the mood and Pep's title-winning juggernaut is set on a fifth Premier League crown in six seasons, and seventh in nine. The last time these two met at Turf Moor back in 2023 it was 3-0 to City, and that's the score we're predicting again.
Burnley have failed to score in their last two games at Turf Moor, while Man City have kept clean sheets in each of their past two away games. The Clarets have scored just 15 goals in 16 home games this season, fewer than any side in the division. Furthermore, Burnley have failed to score at home against Man City since 2019, a run spanning four games that we think will extend to five here.
Rayan Cherki has lit up the Premier League in his debut season for Manchester City, and took his campaign to new heights with his sensational solo effort to open the scoring at the Etihad against Arsenal. In an era of football many have complained is too robotic, Cherki is a maverick and a throwback, and his mazy run and finish could end up being the defining moment of the season.
That goal took him to ten goals and thirteen assists in all competitions this season, which is a more than good enough return considering he was not a first-team regular upon arrival, but Cherki is the sort of player that stats alone can't capture. His form is preventing Phil Foden from getting a look-in, and we think the French magician will dazzle again against Burnley, landing at least one shot on target.
Kyle Walker knows a thing or two about winning Premier League titles for Manchester City, having won six during his time under Pep Guardiola. He will know exactly how focused City will be, while desperate to stop Burnley from falling into the Championship in his first season at Turf Moor.
The 96-cap England international doesn't have the legs he used to, and he's collected nine yellow cards so far in the league this season, more than any other Burnley player. Up against the pace and trickery of Jeremy Doku on the left, we could see Walker picking up another booking against his former side.
