After a summer of upheaval on Tyneside that saw several key players and manager Eddie Howe leave, it's been a decent start to the campaign for Matthias Jaissle's Newcastle. They've only lost once in all competitions, with their last match a hard-fought 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Hull.
Coventry didn't collect a point or score a goal in their first four games following promotion, but picked up a massive 1-0 win away at Nottingham Forest in their last game prior to the break. However, the Sky Blues have a poor record against Newcastle, losing seven of their last eight league games against them. Jaissle has key players including Nico Gonzalez returning from injury, and we think The Magpies' extra quality will show. We're predicting a 2-1 win for Newcastle.
Coventry's first league goal of the season should get them up and running, while Newcastle have only kept one clean sheet in the league this season. They shipped four goals in their last away game at Elland Road, with both teams scoring in four of Newcastle's five games. We're backing both teams to score.
With Anthony Gordon departing for Barcelona, Harvey Barnes has had to step up as a leader for Newcastle and has risen to the challenge so far. Barnes provided both assists in The Magpies' win over Hull, and has at least one shot on target in his last three games. We're tipping him to continue that streak with another here.
20-year-old Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi has impressed since joining Coventry in the summer, but the midfielder-by-trade is likely to make a second consecutive start at right wing-back against Newcastle. Milan van Ewijk missed the Forest win with a hamstring injury and Yirenkyi played a key role in keeping a clean sheet. He faces a tough task against Newcastle's left flank of Barnes and Lewis Hall, and we think he'll pick up his second booking of the season.
